How to calculate conversion rate with the Conversion Rate Calculator
- Select the denominator type and Period. Period labels the result and does not filter or convert the figures.
- Enter Conversions and the matching total, such as Total visitors (period), for the same period.
- Enter Target conversion rate (%) - optional if you want a comparison, then choose Calculate conversion rate.
- Review the result and choose Copy result or Download result (.txt).
Conversion rate formula and example
The calculator divides Conversions by the selected denominator and multiplies by 100. With Visitors selected, the page preview uses this calculation:
250 conversions / 10,000 visitors * 100 = 2.5% conversion rate
The result lists the denominator per conversion and the non-converting count. If Conversions is zero, the per-conversion value is N/A.
What Denominator type changes
The selected denominator names the total used in the percentage. Choose Visitors, Leads, Sessions, or Clicks when one of those totals matches the conversion event. Choose Custom (other) for another total; the result labels it as the denominator.
Keep Conversions and the selected total on the same period and step. Period can be Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Annual, or Custom period. It labels the result and downloaded summary only.
How Target conversion rate (%) - optional works
Target conversion rate (%) - optional compares the calculated rate with your target. The result table records actual rate minus target rate. A warning appears when the absolute difference exceeds 0.005 percentage points.
When the rate is below target, the warning estimates how many additional conversions are needed at the same denominator total and rounds that count up. When the rate is above target, it reports the gap. The estimate appears in the warning, not as a separate result field.
Input rules and saved results
- Enter values that parse as finite numbers. Conversions must be 0 or greater, and the selected total must be greater than 0.
- Conversions cannot be greater than the selected total.
- The optional target must be between 0 and 100.
- The displayed
step="0.01"does not limit the script to hundredths; other finite decimals can be calculated. - The result does not account for traffic quality, attribution, statistical significance, or your organization's definition of a conversion.
Copy result places the summary on the clipboard. Download result (.txt) creates a text file with the entered figures, calculation details, formula, conversion rate, target, and gap. The calculator code uses your numbers only and does not send them to analytics, CRM, or advertising platforms.
Where this calculation comes up
Choose Visitors when the conversion total is measured against site visitors. Choose Leads when the measured action follows lead capture, or Clicks when it follows a click. Custom (other) labels the selected total as opportunities in the result.
When another business calculator fits better
Use this page for one conversion rate and its matching denominator. The Business Calculators category covers other measures. For several marketing measures, use the Marketing Metrics Calculator. For clicks divided by impressions, use the CTR Calculator. For lost customers or revenue, use the Churn Rate Calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate conversion rate from visitors?
Divide Conversions by Total visitors (period) and multiply by 100. The calculator applies that formula when you choose Calculate conversion rate.
What should I use as the conversion rate denominator?
Choose the denominator that matches the step being measured. Use Visitors, Leads, Sessions, Clicks, or Custom (other) when its total matches the same period and definition as Conversions.
Does Period change the conversion rate calculation?
Period does not change the arithmetic. Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Annual, and Custom period label the result and downloaded summary.
What happens if Conversions is zero?
The conversion rate is calculated as zero, while denominator per conversion is shown as N/A. The selected total still must be greater than zero.
Can I compare the conversion rate with a target?
Yes. Enter a target from 0 to 100 in Target conversion rate (%) - optional to see the actual-minus-target gap and, when below target, an upward-rounded additional-conversions estimate.
