Mean Median Mode Calculator

Enter a list of numbers to find the mean, median, mode, count, sum, minimum, maximum, and range.

Separate values with commas, spaces, semicolons, or line breaks. Use a period for decimals.

How to use the Mean Median Mode Calculator

Put finite numbers in Numbers, then click Calculate. The page reports Count, Sum, Mean, Median, Mode, Minimum, Maximum, and Range, followed by the formulas in Calculation details. Load sample fills Numbers with the built-in list and calculates it. When enabled, Copy result copies the generated text and Download result (.txt) saves it as a text file.

  1. Enter finite values in Numbers, using commas, spaces, semicolons, or line breaks between values.
  2. Click Calculate to display the statistics and calculation details.
  3. Click Load sample to insert the built-in sample and run the calculation.
  4. Click Copy result to copy the generated text, or click Download result (.txt) to save it.
  5. Click Reset to clear Numbers, errors, and the displayed results.

What mean, median, mode, and range show

Count is the number of values. Sum adds them. Mean is sum / count. The calculator sorts a copy of the values for Median. With an odd count, Median is the middle value; with an even count, it is the average of the two middle values. Mode lists every value tied for the highest frequency when that frequency is above one.

The built-in sample produces these values:

Numbers: 12, 15, 15, 18, 20, 22, 22, 25
Count: 8
Sum: 149
Mean: 18.625
Median: 19
Mode: 15, 22
Minimum: 12
Maximum: 25
Range: 13

Minimum is the first value in the sorted list, and Maximum is the last. Range is maximum - minimum, so this sample has 25 - 12 = 13.

How to enter numbers for mean, median, and mode

Use a period for decimals and a minus sign for negative values. The parser treats whitespace, commas, and semicolons as separators, so 12, 15, 15, 12 15 15, and 12;15;15 produce the same list.

Each token must be a finite number. Empty input, an invalid token, or a non-finite value shows an error, hides the results, and rejects the calculation. The parser does not skip the bad part of a list. When parsing fails, the script disables Copy result and Download result (.txt).

How the results fit common data checks

For a homework data set, enter the values in Numbers and compare Mean or Median with a hand calculation. Calculation details lists the formulas used for the displayed values.

For repeated responses, check Mode. If several values have the same highest frequency, the result lists all of them.

For a short measurement list, check Minimum, Maximum, and Range to see the smallest value, largest value, and their difference. Download result (.txt) saves the displayed statistics and the local-calculation note.

When another Statistics Calculators page fits

Use this page for one list of numbers when you need Count, Sum, Mean, Median, Mode, Minimum, Maximum, and Range. For a different statistical result, open Statistics Calculators and choose the page for that calculation.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use a mean median mode calculator?

Enter finite values in Numbers and click Calculate. The page displays Count, Sum, Mean, Median, Mode, Minimum, Maximum, Range, and Calculation details.

What numbers can I enter in the Mean Median Mode Calculator?

Enter finite numbers separated by commas, spaces, semicolons, or line breaks. Use a period for decimals and a minus sign for negative values.

How is the median calculated for an even number of values?

The median is the average of the two middle values after the calculator sorts the data.

What does No mode mean in the results?

No mode means every value occurs only once, so no value has a frequency above one.

Are the numbers sent to a server?

The calculation runs locally in your browser, and the calculator script does not submit the values you enter.
