JSON Clean Tools

Clean up JSON data locally in your browser, with no upload.

How to clean JSON data

Pick the cleaner that matches the shape of your data. JSON Cleaner handles one valid JSON document, with choices for trimming string values, removing selected null or empty values, sorting object keys, deduplicating array items, and stripping JSONC comments. JSONL Cleaner handles one JSON record per line, removes invalid or blank records, and exports JSONL with a discard report.

Choose a JSON cleaner for your input

  • JSON Cleaner: Paste one valid JSON document when you need to change its values or structure, then review the original beside the cleaned result.
  • JSONL Cleaner: Use a JSON Lines (JSONL/NDJSON) file when each line is a separate record. It can remove invalid or blank records, trim strings, deduplicate records, and export valid JSONL with a discard report.

What JSON Cleaner changes

Choose the cleanup changes separately. You can trim string values, remove selected null or empty values, sort object keys, deduplicate array items, or strip JSONC comments before reviewing the result beside the original.

For example, an input with "name": " Ada ", "tags": ["data", "data"], and "note": null can become "name": "Ada" and "tags": ["data"] when those cleanup choices are selected. The selected null or empty value can also be removed.

Sorting changes the order of object keys. It leaves their values unchanged. JSONC comments are stripped before the before-and-after review when that choice is selected.

How to clean JSONL and NDJSON records

JSONL Cleaner reads one record per line. You can remove blank lines and invalid records, trim string values, and deduplicate records by full line or by a selected field. The export is valid JSONL, and the discard report records what the cleaner left out.

For example, duplicate lines containing {"id":1,"name":" Ada "} plus a line containing not-json can leave one trimmed record when full-line deduplication and invalid-record removal are selected. Choose a field when records with different content should count as duplicates by that field.

Typical jobs for JSON clean tools

  • Review a JSON document with padded string values or repeated array items before saving it as a fixture. JSON Cleaner shows the original beside the cleaned document.
  • Clean a JSONL export with blank lines or malformed records. JSONL Cleaner produces valid JSONL and a discard report for the excluded lines.
  • Compare JSON documents whose object keys appear in different orders. JSON Cleaner can sort the keys before the review.
  • Review JSONC input as JSON. JSON Cleaner can strip the comments before showing the cleaned result.

How these tools fit with JSON Tools

Use JSON Tools when the next job is validating, comparing, merging, flattening, or querying JSON and JSON Lines. For cleanup, choose JSON Cleaner for one JSON document and JSONL Cleaner for one-record-per-line data.

Frequently asked questions

How do I clean a JSON file?

Use JSON Cleaner for one valid JSON document, choose the cleanup changes you need, and review the original beside the cleaned result. It can trim strings, remove selected null or empty values, sort object keys, deduplicate array items, and strip JSONC comments.

How do I remove duplicate lines from JSONL?

Use JSONL Cleaner and choose deduplication by full line or by a selected field. The result stays in JSONL format, and the discard report lists removed records.

Can I clean invalid JSONL records?

Yes. JSONL Cleaner removes invalid or blank records and exports a valid JSONL file with a discard report describing what it left out.

What is the difference between JSON and JSONL cleaning?

JSON Cleaner works with one JSON document and its values or structure. JSONL Cleaner works with separate JSON records on individual lines, including record removal and deduplication.
