CSV to Excel Converter

Convert CSV or TSV files into Excel (.xlsx) workbooks - delimiter and character encoding are detected automatically, and you can preview your data, set column types, and split rows into multiple sheets before converting. Everything runs locally in your browser.

Drop CSV or TSV files here

How to convert CSV to Excel

Add the files you want in the workbook. The page reads CSV, TSV, and TXT files, detects the delimiter and encoding, shows a data preview, and lets you choose the sheet layout before creating .xlsx files. Keep files separate or combine them into one workbook.

  1. Drop CSV or TSV files here, or use browse files to select CSV, TSV, or TXT files.
  2. Under Delimiter, leave Auto-detect or choose Comma (,), Semicolon (;), Tab, Pipe (|), or Custom... Enter one character in Custom delimiter.
  3. Under Encoding, leave Auto-detect or choose UTF-8, UTF-16 LE, UTF-16 BE, or Windows-1252.
  4. Leave First row is header selected when the first row contains column names. Clear it when the first row contains data.
  5. Review Data preview, choose Auto, Text, Number, or Date for each column, and read any warning about rows with a different number of columns.
  6. Choose Sheet output and Output mode. When conversion finishes, select Download converted files. More than one result is downloaded as a ZIP.

CSV to XLSX settings and sheet output

Delimiter starts at Auto-detect and checks comma, semicolon, tab, and pipe against a sample. Choose Custom... when the separator uses another character, then enter one character in Custom delimiter.

Encoding starts at Auto-detect. The manual choices are UTF-8, UTF-16 LE, UTF-16 BE, and Windows-1252. With First row is header selected, the first row supplies column names. Clear it and the tool names columns Column 1, Column 2, and so on.

Sheet output decides how rows are placed in the workbook. One sheet per file creates one sheet for each source file. Split into sheets by column uses Split by column, with rows for each distinct value in a separate sheet. Output mode selects Separate .xlsx per file or Combine all files into one workbook.

In Data preview, each column has a selector with Auto, Text, Number, and Date. Auto converts numeric-looking values, Text keeps values as text, Number converts values that match its numeric pattern, and Date converts values accepted by Date.parse. Values that do not match stay as text.

What CSV parsing keeps or rejects

The parser reads quoted fields and turns doubled quotation marks inside a quoted value into one quotation mark. Blank rows are dropped. An unclosed quoted field raises an error and stops conversion.

The warning area counts rows whose column count differs from the first row. Missing cells become blank in the workbook. The first row sets the workbook columns, so extra cells in later rows are ignored.

Where CSV to Excel comes up

A customer export such as customers.csv can become customers.xlsx with the first row retained as headers. With One sheet per file, the sheet name comes from the source filename without its extension.

A tab-separated stock list can be loaded as TSV. Select Tab under Delimiter when needed, and set an identifier column to Text when product codes must remain strings.

Load several regional exports together and choose Combine all files into one workbook for one download. If one file has a region field, choose Split into sheets by column and select that field in Split by column.

CSV to Excel or another converter?

Use Spreadsheet Convert Tools when you need workbook sheets, column types, or a preview. Choose CSV JSON Converter when JSON is the source or destination, including nested objects and arrays. Choose CSV to XML Converter when the output needs XML elements or attributes. Choose Delimiter Converter when you need to change delimited text and keep the result in a delimited format.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a CSV file to Excel?

Drop CSV or TSV files here, review the detected settings and Data preview, then select Download converted files after conversion finishes. The result is an .xlsx workbook for each source file unless you choose Combine all files into one workbook.

Can I convert TSV to XLSX?

Yes. Add the TSV file, leave Delimiter on Auto-detect or choose Tab, and the page creates an Excel .xlsx workbook from the parsed rows.

What does Auto-detect delimiter check?

Auto-detect compares comma, semicolon, tab, and pipe separators in the file sample. Select a listed delimiter or Custom... when you already know the separator.

How do I split CSV rows into Excel sheets?

Choose Split into sheets by column under Sheet output, then select a field in Split by column. Each distinct value in that field becomes a sheet.

Does CSV to Excel upload my file?

No. The page reads selected files in the browser, and the converter code has no fetch, XMLHttpRequest, sendBeacon, or form post that includes their contents.
