How to use the letters to numbers converter
Enter text, choose a direction, and set Numbering and Separator between letters before you read the result. The converter changes A-Z and a-z letters into numbers, or changes valid number tokens into uppercase letters. Spaces and line breaks stay where they are, and the breakdown below the result shows each conversion.
- Type or paste text into the input, or choose Upload to load a text file.
- Select Letters → Numbers or Numbers → Letters.
- Choose a Numbering option and a Separator between letters.
- Read the result and breakdown, then choose Copy or Download .txt to take the output elsewhere.
A1Z26 converter, A0Z25, and Reverse numbering
Numbering sets the value for each Latin letter. A1Z26 starts at 1, A0Z25 starts at 0, and Reverse starts at 26 and counts down. For Hi, the three options produce:
Input: Hi
A1Z26: 8-9
A0Z25: 7-8
Reverse: 19-18
Choose Hyphen, Space, Comma, Slash, or Custom in Separator between letters. Custom accepts up to 10 characters. The converter puts the selected separator between characters inside each non-whitespace part of the input.
How to decode numbers to letters
Select Numbers → Letters, then match Numbering and Separator between letters to the number text. Numeric tokens in the selected range become uppercase letters. Spaces and line breaks remain in place.
Input: 8-9 20-8-5-18-5
Output: HI THERE
Space is also used for word boundaries. With 8 9, the converter keeps the space and returns H I. Use Hyphen, Comma, Slash, or a matching Custom separator when both numbers belong to one word.
What the letters to numbers converter leaves unchanged
Encoding maps only A-Z and a-z. Digits, punctuation, accented letters, and other characters stay in the output, with the selected separator placed between characters in the same non-whitespace part. Whitespace, including line breaks, is preserved. During decoding, out-of-range numbers and non-numeric tokens pass through unchanged. In A1Z26, 27-9 becomes 27I; if the input is 89 and the separator is Hyphen, it is read as one number and stays 89.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert letters to numbers?
Enter text, select Letters → Numbers, choose Numbering, and select a Separator between letters. With A1Z26 and Hyphen, Hi becomes 8-9.
What is an A1Z26 converter?
An A1Z26 converter assigns A to 1, B to 2, and Z to 26. Numbers in that range can be changed back into uppercase letters.
How do I decode numbers to letters?
Select Numbers → Letters and match Numbering and Separator between letters to the source text. Valid numbers become uppercase letters. Invalid or out-of-range tokens stay unchanged.
Why is decoded text always uppercase?
Numbers do not carry letter-case information, so decoded letters are uppercase. Spaces, line breaks, and other unchanged characters remain in the result.
