UUID Extractor

Paste plain text or log output and instantly get a clean list of the UUIDs / GUIDs it contains, in bare, curly-braced, and urn:uuid: formats. Each match includes its version, variant, source line, and surrounding context. Results can have braces/prefixes stripped, be case-normalized, and deduplicated.

How to use UUID Extractor to extract UUIDs from text

Put text in Input text or load a file with Upload. UUID Extractor checks bare values, curly-braced values, and urn:uuid: values, then updates Output text and the extracted details as you change the input or matching options.

Extract GUIDs from logs and files

  1. Paste log output into Input text, or select Upload and choose a text file.
  2. Keep the matching options selected, or change them for the UUID forms and display you need.
  3. Read the newline-separated values in Output text and the rows under Extracted UUID details.
  4. Select Copy for the output, or select Download to save uuids.txt.

With the default settings, this excerpt produces four displayed values:

UUID format and cleanup options

  • Unique only keeps the first occurrence of each UUID. It compares values without regard to letter case and treats braces or the urn:uuid: prefix as formatting. Clear it to keep repeated and overlapping matches.
  • Curly-braced format includes values wrapped in braces. urn:uuid: format includes values with that prefix. Bare UUID matching remains on.
  • Include nil UUID controls the all-zero value, 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000.
  • Strip braces/prefix changes the displayed value while the table keeps the match format. Uppercase changes displayed letters to uppercase; when it is clear, letters are lowercase.

What the UUID details table reports

Each row contains UUID, Format, Version, Variant, Line, and Context. Version uses the first character of the third UUID group, so the table can show v1 through v8, Nil, or Unknown. Variant uses a character in the fourth group and can be RFC 4122, NCS, Microsoft, or Reserved.

The classifications come from characters in the matched value. They do not identify its source or generation history. A match can also be a UUID-shaped substring inside surrounding text.

When to use this UUID extractor

Request logs can be reduced to UUID values while the details table keeps each source line and nearby context. Configuration exports can retain braced CLSIDs or URN values, then display them with braces and prefixes removed or with uppercase letters.

For a broader text job, Text Parsing & Data Extraction lists the other extractors. Use Custom Regex Extractor for a pattern that is not a UUID, or Extract Lines Containing a String for whole lines containing a word or regular expression.

File reading and extraction run in the browser, and the local script does not send the input text in a network request. When no UUID matches, the results area stays hidden, and Copy and Download remain disabled.

Frequently asked questions

How do I extract UUIDs from a log file?

Select Upload, choose the file, and read the extracted values and source lines. You can also paste the log into Input text.

Does UUID Extractor find GUIDs with braces or a URN prefix?

It finds bare UUIDs, curly-braced values, and urn:uuid: values when the matching options are enabled. Unique only can combine overlapping forms of the same UUID.

Why are repeated UUIDs missing from the output?

Unique only is checked by default, so repeated values are reduced to the first retained occurrence. Clear it to keep repeated matches and overlapping bare, braced, or URN forms.

Does the UUID version prove how the identifier was generated?

No. Version and Variant classify characters in the matched UUID. The tool does not check generation history or external records.
