How to use the Date Add Calculator
Start with Starting date, enter an Amount, and choose a Unit. Add (move forward) moves the date ahead; Subtract (move backward) moves it back. After you click Calculate result date, the page shows the date math and enables Copy result and Download result (.txt).
- Enter a valid Starting date.
- Enter a whole, non-negative Amount, including zero.
- Choose Days, Weeks, Months, or Years in Unit.
- Select Add (move forward) or Subtract (move backward).
- Click Calculate result date, then use Copy result or Download result (.txt).
How the calculator handles each unit
Days add or subtract calendar days. Weeks become seven calendar days per week. Months use whole calendar months, and Years use 12 calendar months, so those units do not use a fixed day count.
A 30-day addition stays in calendar-day mode:
Starting date: 2026-01-15
Amount: 30
Unit: Days
Direction: Add (move forward)
Result date: 2026-02-14
If the target month has fewer days than the starting day-of-month, the calculator uses the target month's last day. Adding one month to January 31 therefore ends on February's last day, and the assumptions table records the clamping.
Amount and Unit rules
Starting date must be a valid calendar date. Amount accepts a whole, non-negative number from 0 through 100000. Unit starts at Days, and the direction starts at Add (move forward). If validation fails, the calculation stops and an error appears.
Subtract (move backward) applies the same amount rules in the opposite direction. A negative Amount is rejected, so choose the direction control instead. Changing an input after a calculation hides the old result until you click Calculate result date again.
What appears in the result
After a successful calculation, the result shows Result date, Day of week, and Total calendar days moved. The assumptions table records the starting date, direction, entered offset, unit conversion, clamping status, result date, and the total calendar days between the two dates.
Formula used shows the general calculation. The copyable text adds the selected unit's formula and any clamping detail. Copy result sends that text to the clipboard; if copying fails, the page tells you to select and copy it manually. Download result (.txt) creates date-add-calculator-result.txt.
Where adding a date comes up
For a project review date, enter the project date in Starting date and the planned interval in Weeks. For a billing reminder, choose Months so the result shows how the end-of-month rule was handled.
To count backward from a filing date, select Subtract (move backward) and choose Days. If the starting date is February 29, choose Years and check the stated clamping in the result.
When another date calculator fits better
Use the Business Days Calculator when the interval should count business days using a chosen workweek and holiday list. Use the Countdown Calculator when you need time remaining until, or elapsed since, a target date and time in a selected time zone.
Choose the Date Difference Calculator to compare two dates and get days, weeks, or a calendar years/months/days breakdown. The broader Date and Time Calculators category groups these date and time tasks.
Calendar limits of this calculation
The Date Add Calculator works with dates only. It does not use a time of day or time zone, fetch holiday calendars, count business days, or apply jurisdictional or institutional deadline rules. The calculation uses the values entered on the page, and the page does not fetch a live calendar or external date data.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add days to a date?
Enter the date in Starting date, enter a whole number in Amount, choose Days in Unit, select Add (move forward), and click Calculate result date. The result reports the resulting date and the total calendar days moved.
How does Date Add Calculator handle months?
It adds whole calendar months and keeps the original day-of-month when that day exists in the target month. If the target month is shorter, the result uses its last day and records the clamping.
Can I subtract weeks or months from a date?
Yes. Select Subtract (move backward), enter a whole, non-negative Amount, choose Weeks or Months in Unit, and click Calculate result date. Weeks convert to seven calendar days per week, while Months use calendar-month arithmetic.
Does the date add calculator use time zones or holidays?
No. It treats the inputs as calendar dates without a time of day or time zone, and it does not fetch holiday calendars or apply business-day rules.
