Date and Work Time Calculator

Business days, date add/subtract, elapsed duration, week numbers, countdowns, and paid work-hour timesheets, all in one calculator. Set your locale, weekday schedule, time zone, break policy, and overtime thresholds once, then pick a mode below.

These apply across every mode below where relevant.

Controls how dates, times, and numbers are displayed in results.

Used to interpret every date-time in the elapsed duration, countdown, and timesheet modes.

Used by Business Days, Date Add/Subtract (business-day unit), and the timesheet's weekly grouping. Default is Monday to Friday.

Format YYYY-MM-DD. Only dates you enter here are excluded - no public holiday calendar is applied automatically. Used by Business Days and Date Add/Subtract.

Hours above the daily threshold are marked as daily overtime for that day; the week's total (regular plus daily overtime) is then compared against the weekly threshold. This is arithmetic only - it does not implement any jurisdiction's overtime law.

How to use the Date and Work Time Calculator

Select a mode, set the shared values that apply, and run its calculation. Business Days uses checked weekdays and Holidays to exclude. Work Hours & Timesheet uses shift rows, break policy, Time zone, and overtime thresholds. Results show the calculation details for that mode.

Choose a mode and run its calculation

  1. Select Business Days, Add / Subtract, Elapsed Duration, Week Number, Countdown, or Work Hours & Timesheet.
  2. Enter the fields shown for that mode and adjust the shared settings that apply.
  3. Select the matching Calculate button, such as Calculate business days or Calculate resulting date.
  4. Read the result or the validation message shown for missing or invalid input.

Business Days includes both Start date and End date. An entered holiday is removed when it falls on a checked weekday. For example:

Start date: 2026-01-01
End date: 2026-01-01
Holidays to exclude: 2026-01-01
Result: 0 business days

Add / Subtract accepts Calendar days, Business days (uses weekday schedule + holidays), Weeks, Months, or Years. Amount must be whole and non-negative. Years use 12 months; month-end results clamp to the target month's last day.

Read elapsed time, ISO weeks, and countdowns

Elapsed Duration compares the two date-time pairs in the selected Time zone. End date-time must be on or after the start. The result gives a breakdown, decimal hours, total minutes, and the Crosses midnight / spans multiple days value.

Week Number uses ISO-8601: Monday start, Sunday end, and week 1 contains the year's first Thursday. Countdown compares Target date and Target time with your device's current instant. A past target shows time since target.

Enter shift rows for paid hours

Work Hours & Timesheet opens with one row. Enter Date, Start time, and End time, then select Add shift row. Select Remove shift row to delete a segment. Use the same Date on separate rows for a split shift. An End time equal to or earlier than Start time crosses midnight.

Choose No automatic break - count all worked time as paid, Automatic unpaid break once a shift segment exceeds, or Use the manual break minutes I enter on each shift row. The middle option uses the hours worked and break length inputs. Results show gross, break, paid, regular, and overtime hours by segment, date, and ISO week. Overtime pay multiplier (label only) produces an informational hour-equivalent.

Check shared settings before calculating

  • Locale (display formatting) changes how dates, times, and numbers appear.
  • Time zone applies to Elapsed Duration, Countdown, and Work Hours & Timesheet.
  • Mon through Sun checkboxes control Business Days and business-day Add / Subtract. Timesheet rows use ISO week grouping.
  • Holidays to exclude affects Business Days and business-day Add / Subtract. Daily overtime threshold (hours), Weekly overtime threshold (hours), and Overtime pay multiplier (label only) apply to Work Hours & Timesheet.

Invalid dates and holiday entries stop calculation. Business Days rejects an End date before Start date and ranges longer than 36,600 days. Add / Subtract accepts whole, non-negative amounts. Business-day calculations need one checked weekday. Overtime thresholds use the values you enter.

Examples with dates and shift rows

For a scheduled range, select Business Days, check weekdays, enter dates in Holidays to exclude, and read the inclusive count. For a deadline, select Add / Subtract, choose Business days (uses weekday schedule + holidays), and enter Base date and Amount.

For a split shift, add rows with the same Date and enter each segment's Start time and End time. Results keep each segment, then group paid time by date and ISO week.

Choose a narrower calculator when needed

Use the Date and Time Calculators category for a narrower task. Choose the Business Days Calculator for business-day counts, the Date Add Calculator for date addition, or the Timesheet Calculator for weekly work hours and overtime.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate business days between two dates?

Select Business Days, enter Start date and End date, set the weekday checkboxes and Holidays to exclude, then select Calculate business days. Both endpoint dates count.

Can I calculate elapsed time across midnight?

Select Elapsed Duration and enter the two date-time pairs. The selected Time zone handles an End date on a later day.

How do I enter a split shift?

Select Add shift row and use the same Date for each segment. Enter each segment's Start time and End time. An earlier or equal End time crosses midnight.

Does the calculator apply public holidays or labor laws?

The calculator uses only dates entered in Holidays to exclude. Overtime uses Daily overtime threshold (hours) and Weekly overtime threshold (hours), so the result is arithmetic based on the values you enter.
