Auto Loan Calculator

Enter the vehicle price, down payment, trade-in details, sales tax rate, title and fees, interest rate, and loan term. The calculator works out your monthly payment, total interest, the amount financed, and a full month-by-month amortization schedule, with cash due at signing shown separately from financed costs.

The negotiated price of the vehicle before tax and fees.

Cash paid up front, separate from any trade-in.

What the dealer credits for your trade-in vehicle.

Amount still owed on the trade-in, if any. 0 if it's paid off.

Applied to price minus trade-in value. Enter your local rate - not fetched automatically.

Flat fees charged at purchase.

If unchecked, tax and fees are added to cash due at signing instead of financed.

The nominal annual rate on the loan.

Length of the loan in months.

Applied entirely to principal each month, on top of the scheduled payment.

How to use the Auto Loan Calculator

Enter the purchase and loan details. Keep Roll tax & fees into the loan checked to finance those costs, or clear it to pay them at signing. The result separates Scheduled monthly payment, Total interest paid, Amount financed, and Cash due at signing.

  1. Enter Vehicle price ($) and Down payment ($).
  2. Enter Trade-in value ($) and Trade-in loan payoff ($), or leave both blank.
  3. Enter Sales tax rate (%) and Title, registration & doc fees ($). Keep Roll tax & fees into the loan checked to finance them, or clear it to pay them at signing.
  4. Enter Annual interest rate / APR (%) and Loan term (months), add Extra payment per month ($, optional) if needed, then select Calculate.

How the Auto Loan Calculator handles trade-ins and tax

Trade-in equity is Trade-in value ($) minus Trade-in loan payoff ($). Taxable amount is max(Vehicle price - Trade-in value, 0), multiplied by Sales tax rate (%). A higher payoff creates negative equity and raises Amount financed.

Vehicle price: $32,000
Down payment: $3,000
Trade-in value: $8,000
Trade-in loan payoff: $2,000
Sales tax rate: 6.25%
Title, registration & doc fees: $450
Annual interest rate / APR: 6.9%
Loan term: 60 months
Amount financed: $24,950.00
Scheduled monthly payment: $492.86

What Roll tax & fees into the loan changes

With Roll tax & fees into the loan checked, Sales tax and fees are added to Amount financed. When clear, those costs are added to Cash due at signing. A negative Amount financed becomes zero.

What the Auto Loan Calculator shows after Calculate

Calculate shows Scheduled monthly payment, Total interest paid, Amount financed, and Cash due at signing. The breakdown also includes Actual months to payoff, Total of all loan payments, and Total cost (cash due + all payments).

Each row shows Month, Payment, Principal, Interest, and Remaining balance. Extra payment per month ($, optional) applies to principal each month. Scheduled monthly payment remains the base payment; the final row can be smaller.

When the Auto Loan Calculator rejects input

Vehicle price ($), Annual interest rate / APR (%), and Loan term (months) are required. Vehicle price must be greater than 0; APR must be 0 to 100; and the term must be a whole number from 1 to 120 months. Other numeric fields must be 0 or greater; Sales tax rate (%) must be 0 to 25. Blank optional fields become zero; invalid input shows an error.

The calculator uses your entries. It does not check loan approval or credit, price insurance, fetch live tax rates, or project vehicle depreciation.

Ways to read the financing breakdown

  • Check Amount financed and Cash due at signing to compare Down payment ($) with trade-in equity.
  • Enter Trade-in loan payoff ($) beside Trade-in value ($) to see positive or negative trade-in equity.
  • Add Extra payment per month ($, optional), then compare Actual months to payoff with Total interest paid.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Auto Loan Calculator calculate Amount financed?

Amount financed is Vehicle price ($) minus Down payment ($) and trade-in equity, plus Sales tax and Title, registration & doc fees ($) when those costs are rolled into the loan. Trade-in equity is Trade-in value ($) minus Trade-in loan payoff ($). If the calculated Amount financed is negative, the calculator sets it to zero.

How does the Auto Loan Calculator apply Sales tax rate (%)?

Sales tax is max(Vehicle price - Trade-in value, 0) x Sales tax rate (%) / 100. The calculator applies the rate you enter and does not fetch a live jurisdiction-specific rate.

What is the difference between Cash due at signing and Amount financed?

Cash due at signing is Down payment ($) plus tax and fees left outside the loan. Amount financed is the balance repaid through the schedule with interest.

Can the Auto Loan Calculator show an extra monthly payment?

Yes. Extra payment per month ($, optional) is applied to principal each month, which can reduce Actual months to payoff and total paid while Scheduled monthly payment remains the base payment.

Does the Auto Loan Calculator check lender approval or insurance?

No. It calculates financing from the values you enter and does not check lender approval or credit, price insurance, fetch live tax rates, or project vehicle depreciation.
