How to use the cooking conversion calculator
Start with Amount, choose From unit and To unit, then select Calculate. The result shows the converted amount, the conversion factor, and the value after Batch scale factor is applied. Ingredient density (g/mL) appears when the selected units mix volume and weight.
- Enter a value in Amount.
- Choose From unit and To unit.
- Enter Ingredient density (g/mL) when the field appears.
- Choose Result precision and enter a Batch scale factor if needed.
- Select Calculate.
- Select Reset to restore the initial values and hide the result.
Convert cups to grams with ingredient density
Volume-to-volume and weight-to-weight conversions use their unit factors directly. The calculator asks for Ingredient density (g/mL) only when one selected unit is volume and the other is weight. Enter a value greater than zero for the ingredient you are measuring. The calculator has no density lookup.
Input: 1 cup (US) to gram (g), density 0.53 g/mL
Output: 125.39 gram (g)
When a cup, tablespoon, teaspoon, or fluid ounce is converted to weight, the result also includes a density warning. The warning describes measurement variation and does not block the result.
Convert cooking temperatures between Celsius and Fahrenheit
Select two temperature units for a temperature conversion. A temperature unit cannot be paired with a volume or weight unit. That combination shows an error and hides the result.
Input: 350 degrees Fahrenheit to degrees Celsius
Output: 176.67 degrees Celsius
Set result precision and batch scale factor
Result precision sets the displayed result to 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4 decimal places. Batch scale factor accepts zero or greater and multiplies the converted amount after conversion. Enter 2 to double the amount or 0.5 to halve it.
Amount and Batch scale factor must contain numbers of zero or more. A required density must be greater than zero. An invalid value produces an error instead of a result.
Copy or download a cooking conversion result
After Calculate, the result area shows the converted amount, batch-scaled amount, Amount entered, conversion factor, and calculation details for the selected units. Copy result sends the plain-text summary to the clipboard when clipboard access works. Download result (.txt) creates a text file with the same summary.
Where this comes up
For a cup-to-gram conversion, choose cup (US) and gram (g), enter the ingredient density, and read the gram result. The selected source and target units remain part of the result details.
For an oven instruction in Fahrenheit, choose degrees Fahrenheit and degrees Celsius, enter the temperature, and select Calculate. To adjust the converted amount for a recipe, enter a Batch scale factor and use the batch-scaled amount.
Choose the right food calculator
Use Food Calculators for other recipe calculations. Choose Baker's Percentage Calculator for ingredient weights as percentages of flour. Choose Coffee Ratio Calculator for coffee, water, and ratio values. For an ingredient list tied to a target serving count, use Recipe Scaling Calculator.
What the calculator does not cover
The calculator converts the values you enter and does not provide food-safety temperatures, storage guidance, or other food-safety advice. A cup or spoon warning describes density and measurement variation; it does not mean the arithmetic failed.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert cups to grams in the cooking conversion calculator?
Enter Amount, choose cup (US) as From unit and gram (g) as To unit, then enter the ingredient's density in Ingredient density (g/mL). The result uses that number, so the same cup amount can produce different gram values for different ingredients.
Do I need ingredient density for every cooking conversion?
Density is required only when one selected unit is volume and the other is weight. Volume-to-volume, weight-to-weight, and temperature conversions do not show Ingredient density (g/mL).
How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius for a recipe?
Choose degrees Fahrenheit in From unit and degrees Celsius in To unit, enter the temperature in Amount, and select Calculate. The calculator shows the converted temperature using Result precision.
What does Batch scale factor do?
Batch scale factor multiplies the converted amount by the number you enter. Set it to 2 to double the converted amount or 0.5 to halve it.
