How to use a prime factorization calculator
Enter a whole number, run the calculation, and read the factorization alongside the divisions that produced it. The result also tells you if the input is prime and gives you text to copy or download.
- Enter a value in Whole number to factor.
- Press Enter or select Calculate.
- Read the summary, factor chips, and Formula & steps.
- Select Copy result or Download result (.txt) for a text version.
- Select Reset to clear the field and hide the result.
What appears in the result
The summary shows the number, its prime factorization, the count of distinct primes, the total count with repeated factors included, and an Is prime? value. Each factor chip names one distinct prime. A repeated prime gets a power, such as 2^3.
Formula & steps starts with the input, records each successful division, and ends with the remaining-prime step when one applies. Failed candidate checks do not appear.
Input: 360
Output: 360 = 2^3 × 3^2 × 5
Copy result sends the generated plain text to the clipboard. If copying fails, the text stays available for manual selection. Download result (.txt) saves it as prime-factorization-calculator-result.txt.
How trial division finds the factors
The calculation tests 2 first. It then checks odd candidates while each candidate is within the square-root bound of the current remaining value. A successful candidate is divided out repeatedly before the next candidate is tested.
For 360, the divisions remove 2 three times and 3 twice, leaving 5. The result groups those repeated divisions as powers, so the final expression is 2^3 × 3^2 × 5.
Accepted input and rejected values
Enter one whole number from 2 through 999,999,999,999,999. The parser trims surrounding spaces and accepts a leading plus sign. It rejects values below 2, negative numbers, fractions, decimals, expressions, and other non-digit characters. An invalid value shows an error and hides the result.
The page processes the entered value in its JavaScript. This calculation has no fetch, XMLHttpRequest, sendBeacon, or form-post path, and it adds no unit to the number or its factors.
Where prime factorization comes up
- Enter 360 to inspect repeated divisions and the grouped result 2^3 × 3^2 × 5.
- Enter 84 to see the repeated factor 2^2 alongside 3 and 7.
- Enter 999,999,999,999,999 to check the upper accepted value and save the generated text.

Frequently asked questions
How do I use the prime factorization calculator?
Enter one integer in Whole number to factor, then select Calculate or press Enter. The page shows the factors, summary fields, and successful division steps.
What numbers can I enter for prime factorization?
You can enter a whole number from 2 through 999,999,999,999,999. A leading plus sign and surrounding spaces are accepted, while negatives, fractions, decimals, expressions, 0, and 1 are rejected.
How does the calculator find prime factors?
It divides by 2 first, then tests successive odd candidates up to the current square-root bound. Successful divisions appear in Formula & steps, while failed checks are not displayed.
How can I tell if my number is prime?
Read the Is prime? field in the result. A prime input has one distinct factor with an exponent of 1.
Can I copy or download the prime factorization?
Yes. Select Copy result to place the plain-text result on the clipboard, or select Download result (.txt) to save it as a text file.
