How to use the race finish time calculator
Start with Distance. Choose a preset or select Custom distance.... Then use Calculate from to choose Pace or Speed. After you select Calculate, the page shows the estimated finish time, the equivalent pace or speed, the formula, and each value used. The generated text result also includes the assumptions used for the estimate.
Choose a distance and an input mode
- Choose a preset in Distance, or choose Custom distance... and enter a positive number. Select km or mi in Distance unit for the custom value.
- Select Pace or Speed in Calculate from.
- For Pace, enter minutes:seconds such as
05:30. For Speed, enter a positive number and choose km/h or mph in its unit menu. - Select Calculate to show the estimated time, equivalent pace and speed, formula, and value table.
- After calculating, select Copy result or Download result (.txt). Reset returns Distance to 5K and Calculate from to Pace.
Race finish time formula from pace or speed
In Pace mode, the calculator uses Finish time = Distance × Pace. In Speed mode, it uses Finish time = Distance ÷ Speed. The selected pace or speed unit controls the distance unit shown in the result. For a custom distance, the separate Distance unit selection is converted with 1 mile = 1.609344 km.
Distance: 10K
Pace: 05:00 min/km
Estimated finish time: 0:50:00
Equivalent speed: 12.00 km/h
Read, copy, or download the result
The result shows estimated finish time, pace, and speed. Its value table includes the selected-unit distance, kilometer distance, input mode, pace, speed, finish time in H:MM:SS format, and total seconds. Select Copy result for a plain-text summary or Download result (.txt) to save the summary as a .txt file. If clipboard copying fails, the page displays Could not copy - select and copy manually.
What Distance and Custom distance accept
Distance includes 5K, 10K, 15K, 10 Mile, 20K, Half Marathon (21.0975 km), 30K, Marathon (42.195 km), 50K, 50 Mile, 100K, 100 Mile, and Custom distance.... A custom value must be positive. The result shows both the selected-unit distance and its kilometer equivalent, so the conversion remains visible in the value table.
What the race finish time estimate leaves out
- The estimate assumes a constant, unbroken pace or speed for the full distance.
- It leaves out stops, aid-station time, terrain changes, and fatigue-driven slowdown.
- Pace must match the minutes:seconds pattern, with seconds from 00 through 59. Distance and speed must be positive.
- The calculation script uses the entered values in the browser and does not send them to a server or fetch official records, course certifications, or third-party results.
Check a 10K at a pace or speed
For a 10K at 05:00 min/km, enter the value in Pace. The calculator returns 0:50:00 and an equivalent speed of 12.00 km/h.
In Speed mode, entering 12 km/h for a 10K produces the same pace and finish time. The two modes use the same distance and time relationship.
For a distance outside the presets, select Custom distance..., choose km or mi in Distance unit, and enter the distance from the training plan.
When another sports calculator fits better

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate race finish time from pace?
Multiply the distance by the pace, using Finish time = Distance × Pace. For example, 10K at 05:00 min/km gives an estimated time of 0:50:00.
Can I use speed instead of pace for a race finish time?
Yes. Select Speed in Calculate from, enter a positive distance-per-hour value, and the calculator uses Finish time = Distance ÷ Speed.
What pace format does the race finish time calculator accept?
Enter pace as minutes:seconds, such as 05:30. The seconds portion must be from 00 through 59, and the total pace must be greater than zero.
Does the race finish time estimate include stops or fatigue?
No. It assumes a constant, unbroken pace or speed and leaves out stops, aid-station time, terrain changes, and fatigue-driven slowdown.
