Video Splitter

Cut one local video into several clips - by time ranges you add, a fixed clip length, marker timestamps you supply, or embedded chapters. Preview the computed clip boundaries, review an explicit stream-copy vs re-encode decision per clip, and download every clip as a ZIP. Nothing ever leaves your device.

How to split a video into clips

Load one local video, choose how to mark its boundaries, and check the computed clips before processing. Video Splitter accepts time ranges, a fixed clip length, marker timestamps, or embedded chapters. The drop zone lists MP4, WebM, MOV, MKV, AVI, and more. It reports the export decision for each clip before you download one file or a ZIP.

  1. Add one file through Drop a video here or browse files.
  2. Choose a mode in Split by: Time ranges, Fixed clip length, Marker timestamps, or Embedded chapters.
  3. Enter the required values, then check Clip preview for each clip's start, end, duration, and label.
  4. Choose a copy or re-encode option, then select Split to create the clips in the browser.
  5. Save one result with Download clip, or save multiple results with Download all as ZIP.

Cut a video by time range or fixed length

Time ranges gives each clip its own start and end. Enter HH:MM:SS, MM:SS, or seconds. Use Add range to add a row. The two preview-time buttons can fill either boundary with the player's current time. The tool sorts ranges by start time, rejects an end at or before the start, and rejects overlaps.

Fixed clip length cuts the source into consecutive sections. Enter a positive value in Clip length (seconds). The last section ends at the source duration, so it can be shorter than the selected length.

Clip length (seconds): 30
Source duration: 95 seconds
Output: 0-30, 30-60, 60-90, 90-95

Split a video with markers or chapters

Marker timestamps (one per line) takes a timestamp and an optional label on each line. Blank lines and lines beginning with # are ignored. The tool sorts the timestamps and removes duplicates. Only markers inside the video become boundaries, so three usable markers create four clips. A line without a readable timestamp produces a marker error instead of a cut.

Embedded chapters reads chapter ranges already stored in the file and creates one clip per chapter. The mode is disabled when the file has no embedded chapters. Chapter titles can label the resulting clips. The tool uses only chapters or timestamps you provide; it does not detect scene changes.

Choose stream copy or re-encode

Stream-copy when safe (fast, lossless), re-encode otherwise checks each clip's start against the source keyframes. A start at zero, or within 0.05 seconds of a keyframe, can be stream-copied. Other clips are re-encoded, and the result lists the decision for each clip.

Always re-encode using the settings above applies the selected Output format (when re-encoding), either MP4 (H.264 / AAC) or WebM (VP9 / Opus). It also applies the selected Video quality (when re-encoding): Low, Medium, High, or Very high. A stream-copied clip keeps the source extension. A re-encoded clip uses the selected format.

Match the split mode to the cut points

  • Choose Time ranges when each clip needs its own start and end.
  • Choose Marker timestamps (one per line) when you have cut points such as 00:01:23 Fight begins and 00:07:45 Final scene.
  • Choose Fixed clip length for consecutive sections, or Embedded chapters for ranges already stored in the file.
  • Marker labels and chapter titles can appear in the output names. The names use zero-padded clip numbers.

What Video Split Tools covers

Use Video Split Tools when one source file needs several ordered clips. Video Splitter accepts boundaries you enter or chapters already in the file. It does not merge clips, remove silence, crop, resize, rotate, or detect scenes. The source file is read in the browser, and no visitor video is sent to a server.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split a video into equal parts?

Choose Fixed clip length, enter a positive value in Clip length (seconds), and select Split. The tool makes consecutive clips, with the last clip containing the remaining seconds when they do not fill a complete interval.

Can I split a video at timestamps I provide?

Choose Marker timestamps (one per line) and enter one timestamp per line, with an optional label after each timestamp. The tool sorts the markers, removes duplicates, and uses timestamps inside the source duration as cut points.

Does video splitting always re-encode?

Stream-copy when safe (fast, lossless), re-encode otherwise can copy a clip when its start is at zero or within 0.05 seconds of a source keyframe. The result reports the decision for each clip.

Can I use embedded chapters to split a video?

Choose Embedded chapters when the file contains embedded chapters. The tool creates one clip for each stored chapter. Files without chapters cannot use this mode.
