How to remove duplicate words
Remove Duplicate Words checks each line separately and keeps the first occurrence of each word in Output text. Case sensitive controls whether capitalization changes a match, while Trim spaces between words controls the spacing left after duplicates are removed.
How to remove repeated words from text
- Paste text into Input text, or select Upload to provide a TXT, CSV, LOG, or Markdown text file.
- Check Case sensitive when capitalization should make two otherwise matching words different.
- Keep Trim spaces between words checked to join retained words with single spaces, or clear it to keep their original spacing.
- Review the result in Output text.
- Select Copy or Download when the result is ready.
What Case sensitive changes
Case sensitive is unchecked when the page loads, so capitalization is ignored while matching. With it unchecked, the and The count as the same word. With it checked, both remain. The first occurrence keeps its position.
the The quick quick
the The
With Case sensitive unchecked, Output text contains:
the quick
the
With Case sensitive checked, both forms remain:
the The quick
the The
How Trim spaces between words affects the output
Trim spaces between words is checked by default. It joins the retained words with one space and removes leading or trailing whitespace from each line. Clear it when the spacing in the input needs to remain visible.
the the quick fox fox
With Trim spaces between words checked, the result is:
the quick fox
With the option cleared, the code keeps the original text spans between retained words. A removed duplicate can therefore remain inside the span between two retained words.
For the example above, clearing Trim spaces between words produces:
the the quick fox
How duplicate-word matching works
Matching starts over on every line, so a word repeated on another line remains there. Each run of non-whitespace characters counts as one word. Punctuation stays attached, so word and word, are different tokens. Line breaks remain in Output text.
Use Text Cleanup & Filter Tools when you need a different text operation. Choose Remove Duplicate Lines for repeated whole lines, Merge Lines when line breaks should be joined with a separator, or Trim Whitespace when you want to change whitespace without removing repeated words.
What the output keeps
The tool preserves the order of the first occurrences. It also keeps each input line in its original position, so a repeated word on line one does not remove the same word on line two.
Upload accepts TXT, CSV, LOG, and Markdown text files. After processing, Output text is available to copy or download.
