Remove URLs From Text

Detect and remove URL tokens from your text while keeping line breaks in place.

How to remove URLs from text

Paste text into the page, then choose how each URL match should be handled. Remove URLs From Text keeps line breaks, always checks http:// and https:// candidates, and can also check www. links or bare domains. Choose removal to delete matches, or use a custom placeholder when each link position should stay marked.

How to use Remove URLs From Text

  1. Paste text into Input text, or choose Upload to load a .txt, .csv, .log, or .md file.
  2. Choose Remove URLs or Replace with placeholder. Replacement mode enables Placeholder so you can edit the inserted text.
  3. Set the matching options, including Match www-prefixed URLs or Match bare domain-style URLs (no scheme or www).
  4. Turn on Clean up leftover whitespace or Show before-and-after preview when you need either option.
  5. Review Output text, then choose Copy or Download. The output and matched-URL count update as you type or change an option.

How to strip links from text by URL type

The tool always checks http:// and https:// candidates. Match www-prefixed URLs is on by default, so text such as www.example.org is included. Turn on Match bare domain-style URLs (no scheme or www) for text such as example.net/page. This option is off by default and checks a fixed list of top-level domains.

Input: Read https://example.com/guide?ref=1#setup
Output: Read

A candidate can include a path, query string, or fragment, but it cannot contain spaces or angle brackets. Bare-domain matching can also catch domain-like filenames or version text. Leave that option off when those strings should remain.

What happens to spaces after URL removal

Clean up leftover whitespace is enabled by default. On each line, it changes a run of two or more spaces or tabs to one space and removes spaces or tabs at the line end. The rule applies to the whole result, including whitespace that was already present. Line breaks stay in place.

URL boundaries use trimming rules. The tool may remove a trailing period, comma, semicolon, colon, exclamation mark, question mark, or quote from a match, and may trim an unmatched closing bracket. These rules find the edge of a candidate. They do not validate the URL or check if it opens.

Examples with Remove URLs From Text

For a sentence containing https://example.com/guide?ref=1#setup, choose Remove URLs to copy the sentence without that URL.

For an entry such as old-notes.example.net, turn on Match bare domain-style URLs (no scheme or www). Inspect Show before-and-after preview before saving the output.

To keep each removed link's location visible, choose Replace with placeholder and edit Placeholder.

When to use another text cleanup tool

Use Remove URLs From Text when the output should stay as text with links removed or marked. Choose Extract URLs when the URLs themselves should be the output. For other cleanup jobs, Text Cleanup & Filter Tools groups the available choices. Remove Email Addresses targets email-style tokens, and Remove HTML Tags turns HTML into plain text.

Processing, file reading, preview generation, copying, and downloading happen in the browser. The page does not send your text to a server for processing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove URLs from text without deleting line breaks?

Choose Remove URLs and keep the line-break structure in Input text. The tool processes each match while preserving those line breaks.

Can I strip www and bare domain links from text?

Yes. Match www-prefixed URLs is enabled by default. Match bare domain-style URLs (no scheme or www) adds domain-style candidates from the fixed top-level-domain list.

Can I replace links instead of removing them?

Yes. Choose Replace with placeholder, edit Placeholder, and that value appears in place of each matched URL.

Does Remove URLs From Text check if a link is valid?

No. It matches URL-like text and applies the selected output action; it does not check URL syntax, DNS, HTTP status, or reachability.
