How to remove email addresses from text
Enter text or upload a supported file, then choose how matched email addresses should change. Remove emails deletes each match. Replace with placeholder leaves a marker in its place. The result appears in Cleaned output, and surrounding punctuation stays where it was.
Use these controls to clean email addresses
- Enter text in Input text, or choose Upload and select a
.txt,.csv,.log,.md, or plain-text file. - Choose Remove emails to delete matches, or choose Replace with placeholder to insert the value in Placeholder.
- Keep Clean up leftover whitespace selected if you want repeated spaces and tabs reduced and trailing spaces removed from each line.
- Review Cleaned output. Select Show before-and-after preview when you need both versions, then choose Copy or Download.
Replace email addresses in text with a placeholder
Remove emails deletes each matched token. Replace with placeholder inserts the value in Placeholder. It starts with [email removed]. For example:
Input: Email Jane at [email protected]
Output: Email Jane at [email removed]
Placeholder is available when Replace with placeholder is selected. Cleaned output is read-only, and it updates when the input or selected options change.
What email addresses this text cleaner matches
The matcher looks for dotted local@domain tokens, including [email protected] and [email protected]. The domain must contain a dot, so name@localhost stays unchanged. The local part accepts letters, numbers, dots, and several address marks in the page pattern.
Commas, periods, parentheses, and quotes next to a match remain in the text. The tool checks the address shape only. It does not verify that an address exists or can receive mail, and it does not create a separate list of matches.
What Clean up leftover whitespace changes
With Clean up leftover whitespace selected, each line is checked after matching. Runs of two or more spaces or tabs become one space, and spaces or tabs at the end of a line are removed. Line breaks stay in place, but other spacing on a line can change.
Case-insensitive matching is selected by default. The pattern already includes uppercase and lowercase ASCII letters, so turning this option off does not change those letters.
What the cleaned output keeps
- Text outside matched email addresses stays in the output.
- Punctuation beside a match stays in the output.
- Replace with placeholder keeps a visible marker where each match was found.
Choose a different tool for URLs, lines, or duplicates
This page is part of Text Cleanup & Filter Tools. Choose Remove URLs From Text when the unwanted tokens are web addresses, Remove Lines Containing Specific Words when whole lines should be filtered by words, phrases, or regular expressions, or Remove Duplicate Lines when repeated lines are the problem.
Frequently asked questions
Can I replace email addresses instead of deleting them?
Yes. Choose Replace with placeholder, then edit Placeholder if you want a marker other than [email removed].
Will it remove an email address next to punctuation?
Yes. The matcher can find an email-style token beside commas, periods, parentheses, or quotes, while the surrounding punctuation remains.
Why did an email address stay in the text?
An address can remain when its domain has no dot or its form falls outside the matcher pattern. The tool checks address shape, not deliverability.
Does it create a list of removed email addresses?
No. It returns the transformed text in Cleaned output; it does not show a separate address list.
Can I remove email addresses from an uploaded text file?
Yes. Upload a .txt, .csv, .log, .md, or plain-text file, then review the cleaned output.
