Address Extractor

Paste text or upload a file to extract US-style street addresses and PO boxes, including matches with city, state, and ZIP.

Extraction options

How to extract addresses from text

Paste text into Input text or select Upload for a .txt or .csv file. Address Extractor writes each detected street address or PO box on its own line in Output text. The three checkboxes control repeats, incomplete street matches, and PO Box results.

  1. Paste text into Input text, or select Upload and choose a .txt or .csv file.
  2. Set Unique only, Full addresses only (city, state, ZIP), or Include PO boxes.
  3. Read Output text and the live address count after each input or filter change.
  4. Select Copy to place the newline-separated list on the clipboard, or Download to save addresses.txt.

What the extraction options change

Unique only is checked when the page opens. It removes repeats after converting each result to lowercase for comparison and normalizing its whitespace. Full addresses only (city, state, ZIP) keeps a street match only when the match includes a city, a recognized state abbreviation, and a five-digit or ZIP+4 code. Include PO boxes is applied separately, so a PO Box can remain without those three parts.

Reset filters restores the starting choices: Unique only and Include PO boxes on, Full addresses only (city, state, ZIP) off. For example, the default settings turn this input into two lines:

Input: Ship to 742 Evergreen Terrace, Springfield, IL 62704 or PO Box 1234, Shelbyville, IL 62565.
Output:
742 Evergreen Terrace, Springfield, IL 62704
PO Box 1234, Shelbyville, IL 62565

How street and PO Box matches are recognized

A street match starts with a one-to-six-digit house number, with an optional letter, followed by up to four street-name words and a recognized suffix such as Street, St, Avenue, Ave, Road, or Rd. The pattern can include a direction such as NW and an apartment, suite, or unit marker. A city, a listed US state abbreviation, and a five-digit or ZIP+4 code can follow the street.

PO Box matching accepts forms such as PO Box 1234 and P.O. Box 1234, with an optional city, two-letter state code, and five-digit or ZIP+4 code. Standalone city names, phone numbers, email addresses, URLs, non-US address formats, and street text missing the required number or suffix are left out.

What Address Extractor checks

Address Extractor pattern-matches the text you provide. It does not check that a location exists or can receive mail. The address-matching script contains no fetch, XMLHttpRequest, sendBeacon, or form submission for the input, so matching runs in the browser.

Where extracted address lines can be used

  • Copy detected street addresses into a dispatch list after pasting a message with delivery details.
  • Upload a CSV with repeated customer records and keep Unique only on to review one line per detected address.
  • Turn Include PO boxes off for a street-address-only list, then use Full addresses only (city, state, ZIP) to remove incomplete street matches.

When another extractor fits the text

Address Extractor is part of Text Parsing & Data Extraction. Choose Phone Number Extractor for phone numbers, Extract Emails from Text for email addresses, or Extract URLs from Text for web addresses. Each sibling looks for its own pattern, while this page looks for street addresses and PO boxes.

Frequently asked questions

How do I extract addresses from text?

Paste text into Input text or select Upload for a .txt or .csv file. The detected street addresses and PO boxes appear one per line in Output text.

Can I extract PO boxes from text?

Yes, Include PO boxes extracts matches such as PO Box 1234 and is checked by default. Turn it off to omit PO Box matches from the results.

What does Full addresses only (city, state, ZIP) do?

Full addresses only (city, state, ZIP) removes street matches that lack a city, recognized state abbreviation, or five-digit or ZIP+4 code. PO Box results are handled separately and can remain when Include PO boxes is checked.

Does Address Extractor check if an address is deliverable?

No. Address Extractor identifies text that matches its street-address or PO Box patterns, then lists the matches; it does not verify a real location or delivery status.
