How to use the CPC Calculator
Keep Total ad spend and Total clicks tied to the same period or campaign. The CPC Calculator shows Cost per click (CPC), Implied cost per 1,000 clicks, and Total clicks (period). Add Target CPC - optional when you want the per-click and total-spend gap beside the main result.
- Choose values in Currency and Period. They label the result and downloaded summary.
- Enter Total ad spend and Total clicks for the same period or campaign.
- Enter Target CPC - optional, or leave it blank to omit the comparison.
- Click Calculate CPC to show the figures, formula, and assumptions table.
- Click Reset to return to USD, Monthly, and blank input and result states.
How to calculate cost per click from ad spend and clicks
Divide Total ad spend by Total clicks for the same period or campaign. With the figures below, the calculator displays:
Total ad spend: $850
Total clicks: 1,200
Cost per click (CPC): $0.7083
Implied cost per 1,000 clicks: $708.33
The calculation is Total ad spend ÷ Total clicks. Implied cost per 1,000 clicks multiplies that CPC by 1,000. It still uses clicks, while the CPM Calculator uses impressions.
What Target CPC - optional changes
Enter a target to add Gap vs. target (per click) and Gap vs. target (total spend) at the current click volume. Leave Target CPC - optional blank and the assumptions table shows Not entered and N/A for those rows. The warning appears when the absolute per-click gap is greater than 0.0005. The comparison leaves your inputs unchanged and does not recommend a bid.
CPC calculator inputs and validation
- Total ad spend accepts a number of 0 or more.
- Total clicks must be greater than 0, because zero clicks leave CPC undefined.
- Target CPC - optional, when entered, accepts a number of 0 or more.
- Currency changes the displayed symbol or label. It does not convert currencies or fetch exchange rates.
- Period labels the result as Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Campaign total, or Custom period.
Invalid input shows an error. When you change an input or selection, the result hides until you click Calculate CPC again.
What the CPC result includes
After Calculate CPC, the result shows Cost per click (CPC), Implied cost per 1,000 clicks, and Total clicks (period). The assumptions table lists the selected labels, entered values, calculated values, and target rows.
Click Copy result for a plain-text summary. If copying fails, the text becomes selectable. Download result (.txt) saves the figures and formula as a text file.
Examples using CPC results
- A campaign report lists total ad spend and total clicks for a month. Enter both under the same Period label to calculate CPC for that campaign.
- A campaign has a target CPC. Enter it in Target CPC - optional to compare the target with the current click volume.
- A report uses impressions instead of clicks. Use the CPM Calculator for that impression-based calculation.
When to use a CPC calculator or another marketing calculator
Use the Business Calculators category for calculations beyond cost per click. Choose the CTR Calculator for a click-through rate from clicks and impressions. Choose the Marketing Metrics Calculator for ROAS, CPM, CPC, CTR, conversion rate, or side-by-side campaign results.
The page processes your entered figures locally in the browser. It does not send them to a server.
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate cost per click from ad spend and clicks?
Divide Total ad spend by Total clicks for the same period or campaign. The formula is CPC = Total ad spend / Total clicks.
What is the difference between CPC and CPM?
CPC divides ad spend by clicks. CPM divides ad spend by impressions and scales the result to 1,000 impressions. The implied cost per 1,000 clicks here uses clicks, so it is a different measure.
What does Target CPC - optional show?
Target CPC - optional shows the difference between the calculated CPC and the target per click and across the current click volume. Leave it blank to omit those comparisons.
Does the CPC Calculator use live ad data?
The CPC Calculator uses only the figures you enter. It does not fetch live rates or ad account records, and it processes your spend, clicks, target, currency, and period values locally in the browser.
