How to use the Study Time Calculator
Fill in one row for each subject, then add the dates and hours you can study. The result gives total required hours, daily and weekly targets, each subject's share, and a status based on your stated daily availability. Copy the result or download it as a text plan.
- Replace the default Math, Biology, and History rows with your own subjects and estimates. Select Add subject for another row.
- Enter a value in Estimated workload (hours) for every partly filled row. The value must be greater than 0. A fully blank row is ignored, and a blank name becomes
Subject 1,Subject 2, and so on. - Set Start date and Deadline. Start date counts as a study day, while Deadline does not.
- Type comma-separated
YYYY-MM-DDvalues in Blocked dates (optional), then enter Daily study availability (hours). - Choose Buffer and select Calculate. Reset restores the default subjects, sets Start date to today, clears the other fields, and hides the result.
How available study days are counted
Every calendar day starting with Start date and ending the day before Deadline counts, including weekends. A blocked date inside that span removes one available study day; a date outside it has no effect. At least one day must remain, and Daily study availability (hours) must be greater than 0 and no more than 24.
Start date and Deadline must be valid, with Deadline after Start date. An unreadable value in Blocked dates (optional) stops the calculation and shows an error, so enter dates in the format shown beside the field.
What the study time calculator calculates
Buffer adds hours to the sum of the subject workloads. None (0%), Light (10%), Moderate (20%), and Heavy (30%) are available, with Light (10%) selected initially. The default rows produce this starting calculation:
Math: 12 h
Biology: 8 h
History: 5 h
Buffer: Light (10%)
Total required hours: 27.5 h
Daily target is total required hours divided by available study days. Weekly target is the daily target multiplied by 7. Each subject receives the same share of those targets as its share of the base workload, and the buffer is applied once to the total.
The status is On track when Daily study availability (hours) meets the daily target. Otherwise it is Behind schedule and shows the daily shortfall plus an estimate of extra study days at that availability. The calculator does not create a new date plan.
What the study time calculator leaves out
The calculation uses the workload, dates, blocked dates, availability, and Buffer you enter. It does not model learning speed, subject difficulty, priority, or academic outcomes. It also does not access a calendar, school system, or account. The script processes these fields locally and makes no network request with them.
After Calculate, select Copy result or Download plan (.txt). If copying fails, select the plain-text result manually.
Where study planning comes up
Enter workload estimates for Math, Biology, and History, block dates reserved for travel, and compare the daily target with the hours available after school.
For several exams, add each subject, set Deadline to the last preparation day, and use the per-subject allocation to divide the daily target.
Choose the right education calculator
Browse Education Calculators when you need a different kind of school calculation. Use Final Grade Calculator when you need the final exam score required for a target course grade. Use Attendance Percentage Calculator for attendance rate and allowable missed sessions based on attended and total sessions. For term or cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale, choose GPA Calculator instead.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate daily study hours?
Divide total required hours by available study days. The deadline is excluded, and blocked dates inside the date span are removed.
What does Buffer change in a study plan?
Buffer adds 0%, 10%, 20%, or 30% to the base workload, depending on the selected option. Light (10%) adds 2.5 hours to the default 25-hour workload.
How does the calculator handle blocked dates?
It removes each blocked date between Start date and the day before Deadline. Invalid date text stops Calculate with an error.
How does the study time calculator split subjects?
Each subject gets the same share of the daily and weekly targets as its share of the base workload. The buffer follows those proportions.
Can the study plan calculator access my calendar?
No. It uses the values entered in its fields and does not access a calendar, school system, or account.
