How to use the Baseball Statistics Calculator
Pick a mode, fill in its fields, then select Calculate. Batting uses Hits, At-bats, and Total bases. Pitching uses Earned runs, Walks allowed, Hits allowed, Full innings pitched, Extra outs (0, 1, or 2), and Innings per game (ERA only). The result shows formulas, inputs, assumptions, and statistics.
- Choose Batting (AVG & SLG) or Pitching (ERA & WHIP).
- Enter the fields shown for that mode, including Full innings pitched and Extra outs (0, 1, or 2) for pitching.
- Select Calculate.
- Read Result, Formula used, and the assumptions table. Pitching also shows total outs and decimal innings.
- Select Copy result or Download result (.txt) to keep the formatted calculation.
Switching modes hides the current result and clears the displayed error. Batting Reset clears the batting fields. Pitching Reset clears its entered statistics and restores Extra outs (0, 1, or 2) to 0 and Innings per game (ERA only) to 9.
How to calculate batting average and slugging percentage
Choose Batting (AVG & SLG), then enter Hits, At-bats, and Total bases. Total bases adds 1 for a single, 2 for a double, 3 for a triple, or 4 for a home run. AVG divides Hits by At-bats. SLG divides Total bases by At-bats.
Hits: 55
At-bats: 200
Total bases: 88
Batting average (AVG): .275
Slugging percentage (SLG): .440
AVG and SLG show three decimal places without a leading zero. The table repeats inputs and values.
How to enter innings pitched for ERA and WHIP
Choose Pitching (ERA & WHIP) and enter its fields. Enter Full innings pitched as a whole number, then select Extra outs (0, 1, or 2). Baseball notation uses the digit after the decimal for outs: 6.1 means 6 full innings plus 1 out, or 19 total outs. The calculator divides total outs by 3 for decimal innings.
ERA is (Earned runs / Innings pitched) × Innings per game. WHIP is (Walks allowed + Hits allowed) / Innings pitched. Changing Innings per game (ERA only) changes ERA and leaves WHIP unchanged. The field starts at 9 and must be greater than 0. Its displayed value is rounded to zero decimal places in the result table and downloaded text.
What the Baseball Statistics Calculator validates
- Hits, At-bats, Total bases, Earned runs, Walks allowed, Hits allowed, and Full innings pitched must be whole numbers of 0 or more.
- At-bats must be greater than 0. Hits cannot exceed At-bats.
- Total bases must be at least Hits and no more than four times Hits.
- Full innings pitched and Extra outs (0, 1, or 2) must combine to more than 0 outs.
- Innings per game must be greater than 0.
Reset clears the selected mode's inputs, hides the result, and clears errors. The calculation runs in the browser using your values. The script does not fetch player, team, or league records.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate batting average in the Baseball Statistics Calculator?
Enter Hits and At-bats in Batting (AVG & SLG), then select Calculate. The formula is AVG = Hits / At-bats. The result uses three decimal places without a leading zero.
What is the slugging percentage formula?
The formula is SLG = Total bases / At-bats. Total bases adds 1 for a single, 2 for a double, 3 for a triple, or 4 for a home run.
How do I enter 6.1 innings pitched?
Enter 6 in Full innings pitched and select 1 in Extra outs (0, 1, or 2). The calculator treats that as 19 total outs and 6.3333 decimal innings.
Can I calculate ERA and WHIP with a different innings per game?
Enter a value greater than 0 in Innings per game (ERA only). That value changes ERA. WHIP remains based on Walks allowed and Hits allowed per inning.
Does the Baseball Statistics Calculator use player records?
The calculator uses the numbers you enter. It does not fetch player, team, or league records or apply a specific league's official rulebook.
