Golf Calculator

Three modes: score relative to par, round statistics, and an unofficial handicap index estimate. Every formula and adjusted value is shown before the result.

Score relative to par

Enter the par and your strokes for each hole. Leave a hole's strokes blank to skip it - the total is calculated across every hole with a strokes value entered.

How to use the golf calculator

Three modes share this page. Score vs Par works hole by hole for 9 or 18 holes. Round Statistics takes totals from a round. Handicap Index Estimate uses score, course rating, and slope rating entries, then shows the formula, assumptions, and values used.

  1. Choose Score vs Par, Round Statistics, or Handicap Index Estimate.
  2. Enter the requested values. Leave a field blank only when the page labels it optional.
  3. Choose Calculate, Calculate estimate, or Add round as needed. Review the result, then use Copy result or Download result (.txt).

Score relative to par

Choose Score vs Par, then choose 9 holes or 18 holes under Holes to enter. Each displayed hole needs a whole-number par from 3 to 6. Enter whole-number strokes for the holes you played. Leave skipped holes blank, then choose Calculate after entering at least one stroke value.

The result adds the entered holes and applies Total strokes - Total par. A hole difference of -2 is Eagle, -1 is Birdie, 0 is Even (E), +1 is Bogey, and +2 is Double bogey. Other differences stay as signed numbers.

Round statistics output

Round Statistics uses Holes played, Course par, Total strokes, Total putts, Fairways possible, Fairways hit, and Greens in regulation hit. Penalty strokes (optional) appears separately. Leaving that field blank gives it a value of zero.

18 holes, par 72, 88 strokes
32 putts, 8 of 14 fairways, 7 GIR, 1 penalty stroke

Score relative to par: +16
Putts per hole: 1.78
GIR%: 38.9%, Fairway%: 57.1%
Strokes per hole: 4.89

Fairways possible starts at 14, and you can change it. When it is 0, Fairway% shows n/a (0 possible). Holes played accepts 1-18, Course par 27-90, Total strokes from holes played to 300, Total putts 0-200, Fairways possible 0-18, and Penalty strokes 0-50. Fairways hit cannot exceed Fairways possible, Greens in regulation hit cannot exceed Holes played, and Total putts cannot exceed Total strokes.

Handicap index estimate

Choose Handicap Index Estimate and select WHS-style estimate or Simple average of all entered differentials under Handicap-system assumption. Add at least three complete rounds with Score, Course rating, and Slope rating. Score must be a whole number of 50 or more. Course rating accepts 55 through 80, and Slope rating accepts whole numbers from 55 through 155. Empty rows are skipped.

Each differential uses (Score - Course rating) x 113 / Slope rating. WHS-style estimate uses the configured number of lowest differentials and its low-round adjustment. Simple average uses every entered differential with no adjustment. Both multiply the selected average by 0.96. The confirmation checkbox must be ticked before Calculate estimate returns a result.

What the estimate does not verify

The handicap number is an unofficial estimate based on the entered rounds and selected assumption. The page does not look up a course, submit a score, certify an official handicap, or apply a club or national authority's complete rules. Check the rules that apply to your handicap before relying on the number.

All three modes calculate in the browser. The calculation code does not send the entered values elsewhere.

When each mode fits

  • Use Score vs Par for a scorecard with hole par and strokes, including a partial round with blank holes.
  • Use Round Statistics for one round's GIR%, Fairway%, Putts per hole, and Strokes per hole after recording its totals.

Which golf calculator should you use?

Use this page for score relative to par, round statistics, and a handicap index estimate in one place. The Golf Score Calculator covers hole-by-hole score relative to par. The Golf Handicap Calculator covers an unofficial handicap index estimate. For baseball, basketball, bowling, cycling, heart-rate, or race-time calculations, use Sports Calculators.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use a golf calculator to calculate score vs par?

Choose Score vs Par, select 9 holes or 18 holes, enter par and strokes, and choose Calculate. Blank strokes skip holes. The result subtracts total par from total strokes for the holes with strokes entered.

Can Round Statistics show Fairway% when Fairways possible is zero?

When Fairways possible is 0, the result shows Fairway% as n/a (0 possible). Fairways hit cannot exceed Fairways possible, so it must be 0 in this case.

How many rounds does the golf handicap index estimate need?

The estimate needs at least three complete rounds with Score, Course rating, and Slope rating. You must also confirm that you reviewed your local club's or national handicap authority's rules before choosing Calculate estimate.

Does the golf calculator produce an official handicap?

The handicap mode produces an unofficial estimate from the entered rounds and selected assumption. It does not submit scores, verify a handicap, or replace an official local system.
