How to extract content from a document
Open one DOCX, PDF, PPTX, or EPUB file, check the detected items, select the rows you need, and export them as TXT, Markdown, CSV, JSON, or a media ZIP. The extractor reads the file in your browser and leaves the original file unchanged.
- Drop one DOCX, PDF, PPTX or EPUB file onto the drop zone, or click
browse file. - Check the content categories, item counts, and warnings about encryption, DRM, or missing text layers.
- Filter the table with a category chip or
Search extracted items, then select the rows to keep. - Choose an available export button under
Export selected itemsand download the result.
What content can DOCX, PDF, PPTX and EPUB extraction find?
DOCX extraction finds paragraphs, headings, list items, tables, and embedded media. PDF extraction finds selectable page text, images, links, bookmarks or outline entries, and font metadata. PPTX extraction finds slide text and embedded media. EPUB extraction finds chapters, the cover image, and navigation or table of contents entries.
How to search and select extracted document items
Read the table's Reference, Preview, and Details columns before selecting rows. Category chips narrow the visible category. Search extracted items checks those three displayed fields. It does not search the full paragraph, chapter, or page-text payload.
For a DOCX table, CSV begins with these columns:
Selected item: Table 1
Export format: CSV
Columns: Table, Row, Cells
Select all in view selects the rows currently shown. Clear selection removes every selected row.
Which export format should you choose?
- Choose TXT for paragraphs, headings, list items, slide text, page text, or chapter text.
- Choose Markdown for headings, lists, paragraphs, or flattened table rows.
- Choose CSV for DOCX tables and metadata such as media, links, bookmarks, images, or fonts.
- Choose JSON for structured item metadata, including PDF page text and EPUB navigation.
- Choose ZIP for extractable DOCX or PPTX media and the EPUB cover image.
The page shows formats shared by every selected category. A mixed selection can remove all export choices, with a message asking you to select compatible categories together.
What this document extractor does not do
The file is read and processed in your browser. The document-processing code does not send the selected file to a server, and the original file is never modified or written back.
- The tool does not run OCR. A PDF page without selectable text is reported as likely scanned or image-only.
- DOCX tables become rows of cell text. The extractor does not reconstruct merged cells, nested tables, or column widths.
- Password-protected or encrypted files cannot be decrypted. EPUB DRM detection checks
META-INF/encryption.xml. - PDF processing stops after 2,000 pages. Item creation stops at 20,000 items.
- A listed PDF image may have no binary data available for extraction, so its ZIP export can fail.
Where document content extraction comes up
- Pull DOCX headings and paragraphs into TXT or Markdown before reviewing them in another editor.
- Select PDF bookmarks, links, or font metadata and export the details as CSV or JSON.
- Separate PPTX slide text from embedded media, then export the text or download a media ZIP.
- Select EPUB chapters, navigation, or the cover image for a reference file or archive.

Frequently asked questions
Can I extract text from DOCX, PDF, PPTX and EPUB files?
Yes. It reads DOCX paragraphs and headings, PDF page text, PPTX slide text, and EPUB chapter text, plus the other categories listed for each format.
How do I extract text from a scanned PDF?
The tool does not run OCR. It reports pages without a selectable text layer as likely scanned or image-only.
Can this document extractor preserve complex table layouts?
No. DOCX tables export as rows of cell text in source order. Merged cells, nested tables, and column widths are not reconstructed.
Can I export selected document content as CSV or JSON?
Yes. CSV is available for tables and several metadata categories. JSON exports structured item metadata. The buttons depend on the formats shared by all selected categories.
