Audio Format Converter

Convert audio between MP3, AAC, FLAC, WAV, OGG Vorbis, and Opus locally in your browser, with explicit control over sample rate, bit depth, channels, bitrate, metadata, and loudness - nothing is uploaded.

Drop audio files here

or

MP3 . AAC/M4A . FLAC . WAV . OGG . OPUS . and more as input

How to convert audio formats

Add one or more audio files with Drop audio files here or browse files. Choose an output under Convert to, set the available controls, and click Convert. The files are processed in the browser, and the page does not upload their contents. Each output uses the first audio track from its source.

Convert audio files step by step

  1. Drop audio files here, or click browse files. Empty files are ignored.
  2. Select a file in the file list and review Input properties and Compatibility & quality warnings for that file.
  3. Choose MP3, AAC (M4A), FLAC, WAV, OGG Vorbis, or Opus under Convert to, then adjust the controls shown for that format.
  4. Click Convert. Conversion runs one file at a time, and each status appears in the file list.
  5. Download a completed file from its row. Download all as ZIP appears after more than one file is complete.

Change audio format with bitrate and audio controls

Bitrate appears for MP3, AAC (M4A), OGG Vorbis, and Opus. The choices are 96, 128, 192, 256, and 320 kbps. Sample rate can stay at Keep original or change to 16,000, 22,050, 32,000, 44,100, 48,000, or 96,000 Hz.

Bit depth appears for WAV and FLAC. Choose 16-bit, 24-bit, or 32-bit float. Channels can stay at Keep original, or change to Mono or Stereo. Metadata can stay at Keep original tags or change to Strip all metadata.

The checkbox labeled Normalize loudness to -14 LUFS (streaming standard) is off by default. Select it to apply the loudness pass; leave it off to keep the source loudness.

input: audio.mp3, 44,100 Hz, Stereo
settings: WAV, 16-bit, Keep original tags
output: audio.wav, 44,100 Hz, Stereo

Convert MP3 to WAV without changing the sample rate

Choose WAV under Convert to and leave Sample rate at Keep original. The output keeps the source sample rate. FLAC produces a compressed lossless file, while WAV produces uncompressed PCM. Neither format can restore detail that a lossy source already discarded.

The tool selects only the first audio track, and it does not merge tracks. If a source has several tracks, Compatibility & quality warnings identifies that condition. Empty files are ignored. Corrupt files and files without an audio track are marked as errors and are not converted.

The file picker uses the audio/* filter. The page does not list every accepted codec and container.

Where this comes up

To prepare an MP3 for editing, choose WAV, set Bit depth, leave Sample rate at Keep original, and download the result.

To remove tags from several files, select Strip all metadata. The same settings apply to the pending files.

For a defined bitrate, choose MP3, AAC (M4A), OGG Vorbis, or Opus, set Bitrate, and review the warnings before clicking Convert.

Choose the right audio conversion tool

Audio Convert Tools is the parent category for changing audio formats in the browser. Use Audio Format Converter when you have audio files and need to choose the output format and stream settings. Use Audio Compressor when the target is a smaller file size.

Use MP4 to MP3 Converter when the source is an MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, or WebM video file and you need its audio as MP3. Audio Format Converter reads audio input through the audio file picker and provides the output-format controls described above.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an audio file to MP3, WAV, or FLAC?

Add the file, choose MP3, WAV, or FLAC under Convert to, set the available options, and click Convert. The completed file keeps the source base name and uses the selected format's extension.

Can I convert MP3 to WAV without changing the sample rate?

Yes, choose WAV and leave Sample rate set to Keep original. You can also choose Keep original under Channels when the output should retain the source channel layout.

Does the audio format converter keep metadata?

Yes, Keep original tags is selected by default. Choose Strip all metadata when the converted file should omit the source tags.

Why can't the audio format converter read my file?

The bundled FFmpeg decoder could not read usable audio data from the file. Empty files are ignored. Corrupt files and files without an audio track are marked as errors and are not converted.

Can I convert multiple audio files at once?

Yes, the file picker accepts multiple files, and one set of settings applies to the pending files. Conversion runs sequentially, and Download all as ZIP becomes available after more than one file is complete.
