How to record microphone audio in your browser
Start with Enable microphone and approve the browser permission prompt. Choose a Microphone, check Input level, then click Record. After Stop, listen in the player, select Trim before export if needed, and click Download. The recording is processed in the browser, and the page has no upload step.

- Choose a Recording format and set Quality when it is available.
- Click Record, then use Pause and Resume when needed.
- Click Stop and listen to the result in the player.
- Select Trim before export if needed, then click Download.
How the browser audio recorder starts
The Audio Recorder does not request a microphone until you click Enable microphone. Your browser asks for permission, then the page starts monitoring after access is granted. A denied or unavailable permission leaves recording unavailable.
Use Microphone to switch between the listed audio inputs. A device change restarts monitoring and stops an active recording, so select the input before Record. Input level shows the current signal in dB and keeps a separate peak marker.
How to choose Recording format and Quality
Set Recording format before you click Record. The list contains browser-supported compressed choices when available, plus WAV. Quality changes the bitrate for compressed recording and is disabled when WAV is selected.
WAV downloads as uncompressed 16-bit PCM. The initial capture still uses a browser-supported recording format, then the page decodes and re-encodes it as WAV when you download. Browser support affects the available formats and the compressed output.
How to trim a recording before download
After Stop, the result appears in the player. Select Trim before export to load the waveform. Drag the Trim start or Trim end handle, or enter values in Start and End. The selected region must keep at least 0.02 seconds between its endpoints.
Trimmed output is exported as lossless WAV, even when the original Recording format was compressed. If the browser cannot decode the take, the page cannot prepare trimming or WAV export.
Where recording microphone audio comes up
Record a voice memo, check the opening and ending in the player, and download the take when it sounds right.
For a spoken video introduction, use Input level before the take and Pause during interruptions.
Test two connected microphones by switching Microphone between takes. A device change stops an active recording, so each take stays separate.
When to use Audio Generate Tools
Use this page when the source is a live microphone session. The parent Audio Generate Tools category covers recording audio from a microphone in the browser.
What can prevent recording
The page checks for the MediaDevices and MediaRecorder APIs and a secure context such as HTTPS or localhost. It shows an unsupported message when one of those requirements is missing.
- If no input devices appear, connect or enable a microphone and try again.
- If switching Microphone fails, click Enable microphone again and choose another input.
- If the take cannot be decoded, the browser cannot provide trimming or WAV export for it.
- The Audio Recorder creates an audio file. It does not transcribe speech or analyze its content.
