What happens to the text you enter
How to clean text with this tool
- Enter content in Input text.
- Select Upload and choose a .txt, .csv, .log, or .md file.
- Leave Keep tabs or Keep newlines checked when those characters should remain.
- Review Output text, then select Copy or Download when it contains the text you need.
What Keep tabs and Keep newlines change
Both options start checked. Keep tabs retains tab characters. Keep newlines retains line-feed and carriage-return characters. Clear the matching option before reviewing Output text when that character type should be removed.
Input, with hidden characters shown as escapes:
A\tB\x00
C\r\nD
Output with both options checked:
A\tB
C\r\nD
Here, \x00 is removed while the tab and line break stay. The backslash sequences represent hidden characters in the example; they are not extra text added by the processor.
Which characters the processor removes
The processor removes code points in U+0000-U+001F and U+007F-U+009F, except for tabs and line breaks kept by their checkboxes. Characters outside those ranges remain unchanged, including letters, spaces, punctuation, and other Unicode symbols.
When Input text is empty, the cleaned-output section stays hidden. Copy and Download remain disabled when processing leaves Output text empty, such as when the input contains only characters selected for removal. The processor does not trim spaces or change characters outside its two ranges.
When to keep tabs or newlines
Keep newlines selected when the cleaned text should keep its line structure. Keep tabs selected when tab characters separate fields or indent text. Clear either checkbox when that character should be removed along with the other control characters.
For example, upload a tab-separated file and leave Keep tabs selected so its tab characters remain in Output text. For a single-line result, clear Keep newlines before selecting Download.
When another text cleanup tool fits better
Use Text Cleanup & Filter Tools when you need a different cleanup task. A leading UTF-8 marker calls for Remove BOM; accented letters call for Remove Accents / Diacritics; HTML markup calls for Remove HTML Tags.
