How to extract Bitcoin addresses from text
Paste text into Input text or load a .txt, .csv, .json, or .log file with Upload. Bitcoin Address Extractor scans for Base58, Bech32, and Bech32m candidates, then puts each match in Extracted addresses and the results table. The table shows Address, Type, Status, Line, and Context. A pattern match that fails validation stays visible as Malformed when Show malformed candidates is checked.
How to find Bitcoin addresses in a text file
- Paste text into Input text, or select a file with Upload. The file picker accepts
.txt,.csv,.json, and.logfiles. - Read the results table. Each row shows Address, Type, Status, Line, and Context. Valid types include the network name when the address format identifies one.
- Keep Unique only checked to suppress repeated address strings. Clear Show malformed candidates to hide rows that fail structural or checksum checks.
- Use Copy or Download for the address strings currently displayed. Download saves them as
bitcoin-addresses.txt.
What Bitcoin address formats does the extractor check?
The extractor first looks for legacy candidates beginning with 1 or 3, then for Bech32 or Bech32m candidates beginning with bc1, tb1, or bcrt1. A valid row receives a type such as P2PKH, P2SH, P2WPKH, P2WSH, or P2TR / Taproot, along with its network. A candidate with a bad checksum, length, version, or witness program is marked Malformed and keeps the reason shown by the validator.
Input

Repeat: 1BvBMSEYstWetqTFn5Au4m4GFg7xJaNVN2
Output with Unique only
1BvBMSEYstWetqTFn5Au4m4GFg7xJaNVN2
Pattern matching happens before validation. A string that resembles an address can therefore appear as a malformed candidate. Bech32 input must be all lowercase or all uppercase; mixed case fails the format check.
How Unique only and Show malformed candidates work
Unique only compares each extracted address string exactly and keeps its first occurrence. Case differences remain separate values. Show malformed candidates controls rows that fail structural or checksum checks, while the result count and output text follow both active options. Reset filters checks Unique only and Show malformed candidates again.
What Bitcoin address validation does not check
Validation checks the string's encoding, version, witness data, and checksum. It does not query the blockchain, check balances or transactions, or confirm activity, ownership, or existence. The matching rules cover Bitcoin formats, so an address from another cryptocurrency network is outside them.
Where Bitcoin address extraction comes up
A support note can contain a deposit address, a repeated address, and a typo in the same paragraph. Paste the note, inspect Line and Context, then copy the rows with a valid checksum.
When reviewing a chat export or log, leave Show malformed candidates checked. The Status cell keeps the failure reason beside the source line and context.
For a handoff to another script, check Unique only and use Download. The saved file contains the currently displayed address strings, one per line.
When another text extractor is a better fit
Use the Text Parsing & Data Extraction category for a different pattern. Choose Address Extractor for US-style street addresses or PO boxes, Extract Emails from Text for email addresses, or Extract URLs from Text for web addresses.
Frequently asked questions
What Bitcoin addresses can I extract from text?
The extractor checks legacy P2PKH and P2SH candidates, plus Bech32 and Bech32m candidates using the bc1, tb1, or bcrt1 prefixes. Valid rows show the recognized type and network.
Why does Bitcoin Address Extractor show a malformed candidate?
A malformed candidate matched an address pattern but failed a structural or checksum check. The row stays available with a reason such as invalid length, checksum mismatch, or an unrecognized version.
How do I extract unique Bitcoin addresses?
Check Unique only before reviewing or exporting the results. It removes exact duplicate strings, keeps the first occurrence, and leaves case differences as separate values.
Can it check a Bitcoin address balance or transaction history?
It cannot check balances or transaction history. It performs string, structure, and checksum checks without querying the blockchain.
Does Bitcoin Address Extractor upload pasted text?
The extraction code processes pasted or loaded text in the browser and contains no request that sends that input to a server. Page-wide services are outside the extractor logic described here.
