Currency Extractor

Paste any text and find monetary amounts marked with a configured currency symbol ($, €, £, ¥, ₹...) or an ISO currency code (USD, EUR, GBP...). Each match keeps its detected currency, numeric value, source line, and surrounding context.

Extraction options

How to extract currency amounts from text

Paste text into Currency text input or choose Upload for a supported text file. Currency Extractor lists each marked amount with its currency, numeric value, source line, and nearby text. It recognizes configured symbols and uppercase currency codes, then can write one normalized CODE + amount line for each result.

Extract monetary amounts from text or a file

  1. Paste text into Currency text input. Results update when the input changes.
  2. Choose Upload and select a .txt, .csv, .json, or .log file.
  3. Check the result count and the Extracted amounts table.
  4. Change Unique only or Normalize to CODE + amount if you need a different output.
  5. Choose Copy or Download for the current output. Download saves currency-amounts.txt.

How currency amount extraction reads your input

The matcher looks for a configured symbol next to digits, such as $1,250.50, or an uppercase code before or after digits, such as USD 200 and 200 USD. One space is allowed between the currency marker and the amount. The amount can contain digits, commas, and a period decimal; unmarked numbers and lowercase codes are skipped.

The invoice total is $1,250.50.
Refund: 200 USD.
Matched text:
$1,250.50
200 USD

What Unique only and Normalize to CODE + amount change

Unique only starts checked. It removes a repeated match only when both its source line number and raw matched text are the same. For that reason, $10 and USD 10 remain separate. Normalize to CODE + amount maps symbols to codes and formats every amount with two decimal places.

Input: Total $10
       Refund: 200 USD
Normalized output:
USD 10.00
USD 200.00

Commas are removed before a number is parsed, while periods stay as decimal points. A decimal-comma value can therefore be read differently from the intended locale format.

Review line context before you copy results

The result count and table show Match, Currency, Amount, Line, and Context. Context contains nearby source text and adds an ellipsis when the snippet is clipped. The Amount column uses the browser locale; normalized output uses a period and two decimal places. Copy and Download remain disabled until at least one match exists.

Use the extracted lines in your workflow

For invoice notes, use Line and Context to check each amount against the source before copying the output.

For a log containing charges such as EUR 49.99, review the table and download the current list as a text file.

When prices use both symbols and codes, turn on Normalize to CODE + amount so the output uses the same currency-code format.

Choose another extractor for different data

Use Text Parsing & Data Extraction to choose a parser by data type. Address Extractor handles US-style street addresses and PO boxes, Credit Card Extractor checks card patterns with Luhn status and network details, and Coordinate Extractor reads geographic coordinate formats and produces latitude-longitude output.

Privacy and browser processing

The extraction script processes the entered text in the browser. It contains no request that sends the entered content to a server.

Frequently asked questions

How do I extract monetary amounts from text?

Paste the text into Currency text input, then review the matches in Extracted amounts. Use Unique only or Normalize to CODE + amount before choosing Copy or Download.

Can a currency amount extractor read 1,250.50 and 200 USD?

Yes. Commas are removed before parsing, and an uppercase code can appear before or after the amount with or without one space.

Why did Currency Extractor miss usd 10?

Codes must use their configured uppercase form, so USD 10 matches while usd 10 does not. The amount pattern does not interpret negative signs or accounting parentheses as signs.

Does Currency Extractor convert currencies?

No. It finds and lists marked amounts as written. It does not look up exchange rates or convert currencies.
