How to extract emoji from text
Paste text into the input area, or choose Upload for a supported text file. Emoji Extractor reads the input in the browser and lists each emoji in occurrence order. The table includes the emoji, order, count, code points, and shortcode. If Intl.Segmenter is available, flags, skin-tone variants, and ZWJ sequences stay together.
- Paste text into the input area. The results update as the text changes.
- Choose Upload and select a
.txt,.csv,.json,.log, or.mdfile. The file contents replace the input text. - Read the results table. Its columns are Emoji, Order, Count, Code Points, and Shortcode.
- Select Unique only to show one output line for each distinct emoji and its total count.
- Choose Copy, Download, or Download CSV for the displayed result.
Find emoji in pasted text
The results list the emoji already in the input and keep their occurrence order. With Unique only unchecked, repeated emoji appear on separate output lines:
Input: Go team! 🎉🎉
Extracted emoji:
🎉
🎉
The output area lists the matches. The table adds each match's order, count, code points, and shortcode.
How Unique only changes emoji counts
Select Unique only for one output line per distinct emoji. The table keeps the first occurrence order, while the output adds a tab and the total count:
Input: Go team! 🎉🎉
Unique output:
🎉 2
Unique only changes the displayed result and leaves the input text unchanged. When the input has no emoji, the results section stays hidden and Copy, Download, and Download CSV stay disabled.
How emoji extraction handles composite emoji
When Intl.Segmenter supports grapheme segmentation, a flag, a skin-tone variant, or a zero-width-joiner sequence is returned as one result. The fallback checks code points and may split a composite emoji. Common mapped emoji get colon-wrapped shortcodes such as :grinning:. An unmapped result gets a code-point-based shortcode, and code points use uppercase U+ values.
This page only reports emoji found in the text. It does not remove emoji, replace them, or convert words into emoji.
Where emoji extraction comes up
- For a caption batch, select Unique only and choose Download CSV to review repeated symbols in a spreadsheet.
- For localized strings, check the table when a flag or family sequence needs its code points recorded.
- For an exported chat file, keep the occurrence order and choose Copy to place the extracted list in another document.
When another text extractor fits better
You can find it in Text Parsing & Data Extraction. Choose Extract Emails from Text for email addresses, or Extract URLs from Text for URLs in pasted or uploaded text. Choose Custom Regex Extractor when you need to write the matching pattern.
Frequently asked questions
How do I extract emoji from text?
Paste text into the input area, then read the extracted emoji in occurrence order. You can also choose Upload for one of the supported text files.
Can I find emoji in an uploaded file?
Yes. Choose Upload and select a .txt, .csv, .json, .log, or .md file. Its contents replace the input text for extraction.
Does Unique only remove duplicate emoji?
Unique only combines repeated emoji in the displayed result and reports the total count. It leaves the input text unchanged.
Does emoji extraction split flags and skin-tone emoji?
When Intl.Segmenter with grapheme granularity is available, those sequences stay together. The fallback may split a composite emoji into separate code points.
