How to use the Grade Calculator
Enter the numbers for a course, test, question set, or attendance record, then choose a mode. The Grade Calculator shows the calculation, its assumptions, and the result. Letter-grade settings apply to the percentage results that display a letter.
- Edit Letter-grade settings if your school uses different cutoffs. Use Add row or Reset to default scale.
- Select Weighted course grade, Final grade target, Test score %, Missed questions, or Attendance %.
- Enter the values requested by that mode, then choose Calculate.
- Read Result, Formula used, and the assumptions table.
- Choose Copy result or Download result (.txt) for a text copy.
How to calculate a weighted grade
Choose Weighted course grade and enter Item name, Score (%), and Weight for each graded item. The formula divides the sum of score times weight by the sum of weights, so the weights do not need to total 100. Empty rows are skipped. A partly filled row needs a score and a weight; an empty name becomes Item 1, Item 2, and so on.
How to use a final grade calculator
Use Final grade target with graded items, Final exam weight (%), and Target overall grade (%). Item weights plus the final exam weight must total 100%. The result shows the current weighted score and the required final exam score. A required score above 100% is marked Not achievable. A required score at or below zero marks the target as already secured.
Test score calculator and missed questions
Test score % divides Points earned by Points possible, then reports the percentage, points missed, and letter grade:
Points earned: 42
Points possible: 50
Test score percentage: 84.00%
Letter grade: B
Missed questions uses Total questions and Target score (%). Add Missed so far (optional) to see the current percentage and how many more questions you can miss. The calculation treats every question as equal in value.
Total questions: 40
Target score: 80%
Minimum correct needed: 32
Maximum questions you can miss: 8
How to calculate attendance percentage
Attendance % divides Sessions attended by Total sessions so far and reports sessions missed. Enter both Target attendance % (optional) and Remaining scheduled sessions (optional) to calculate the remaining sessions you must attend and allowable absences. If either field is blank, the result shows the current rate only.
What the letter-grade settings change
The default table sets A at 90%, B at 80%, C at 70%, D at 60%, and F at 0%. Change a label or minimum percentage, add or remove rows, or choose Reset to default scale. The scale labels percentage results. Attendance % reports an attendance rate without a letter grade.
What the Grade Calculator does not apply
Scores must be 0 or greater, weights must be greater than 0, and Points earned cannot exceed Points possible. Total questions, Missed so far (optional), and session counts must be whole numbers. Target percentages accept 0 through 100. The calculator does not apply curves, extra credit, dropped-score rules, or instructor rounding, and it does not access school records or gradebooks. It calculates in the browser from the values you enter.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my weighted grade?
Use Weighted course grade, enter each item's Score (%) and Weight, and choose Calculate. The result divides the weighted score by total weight.
What final exam score do I need for my target grade?
Use Final grade target with graded items, Final exam weight (%), and Target overall grade (%). Item weights plus the final exam weight must total 100%.
How do I calculate a test score percentage?
Enter Points earned and Points possible in Test score %. The result reports the percentage, points missed, and letter grade.
How many questions can I miss and keep my target score?
Enter Total questions and Target score (%). The calculator rounds required correct answers up, then subtracts that count from the total. Each question has equal value.
How do I calculate my attendance percentage?
Enter Sessions attended and Total sessions so far in Attendance %. Add both optional projection values to calculate allowable absences.
