Commission Calculator

Enter your total sales, quota, base pay, and commission tier rates. The calculator estimates your total commission and shows a tier-by-tier breakdown, with the formula, every assumption, and intermediate values shown alongside the result.

Your total sales closed in the commission period (e.g. month or quarter).

Your target for the same period. Used as the tier 1 boundary and to show quota attainment %.

Commission rate applied to the portion of sales from $0 up to your quota.

Commission rate applied to sales above quota (up to the accelerator threshold, if set).

Where tier 3 begins, as a percent of quota. Must be greater than 100. Leave blank for only two tiers.

Required only if you set an accelerator threshold. Applies to sales beyond that threshold.

Added on top of calculated commission to show total pay. Leave blank for 0 (commission-only).

How to calculate sales commission

Enter the sales total, quota, and rates for up to three tiers. The Commission Calculator applies each rate to the sales in its band, then adds an optional base salary or draw to show total pay. The result includes the formula, assumptions, quota attainment, and each tier's commission.

  1. Enter Total sales for the period ($) and Sales quota for the period ($).
  2. Enter Tier 1 rate: up to quota (%) and Tier 2 rate: above quota (%).
  3. For a third band, enter Accelerator threshold (% of quota, optional) and Tier 3 rate: above accelerator threshold (%, optional).
  4. Enter Base salary / draw for the period ($, optional) if it belongs in total pay.
  5. Select Calculate, then review the tier breakdown or select Copy result or Download result (.txt).

How the calculator splits sales across tiers

Tier 1 covers sales up to the quota. Tier 2 covers sales above the quota. If you enter an accelerator threshold, the calculator multiplies the quota by that percentage, applies Tier 2 up to the resulting amount, and applies Tier 3 to sales beyond it.

For example, these entries put $100,000 of sales in Tier 1 and $20,000 in Tier 2:

Total sales for the period: $120,000
Sales quota for the period: $100,000
Tier 1 rate: 5%, Tier 2 rate: 8%
Total commission: $6,600.00

The calculation is $100,000 at 5% ($5,000) plus $20,000 at 8% ($1,600). The 8% rate applies to the above-quota portion only.

Commission calculator inputs and validation

Total sales and Sales quota must be greater than 0. Tier 1 rate and Tier 2 rate are required and must be between 0 and 100. The Accelerator threshold (% of quota, optional) must be greater than 100, and the Tier 3 rate must be entered with it. Base salary / draw can be 0 or greater.

Leave both accelerator fields blank for two tiers. Keep sales, quota, and base salary or draw in the same period when you enter them. Select Reset to clear all fields and hide the result. If an entry fails validation, the calculator shows an error and keeps the result hidden.

What the Commission Calculator result shows

The result lists Total commission, Total pay (base + commission), and Quota attainment. Tier breakdown shows each sales range, rate, sales in tier, and commission. The assumptions table lists entered figures alongside calculated values. Currency uses two decimal places, rates use two, and quota attainment uses one.

Copy result places the plain-text result on the clipboard. Download result (.txt) creates a text file named commission-calculator-result.txt. The script uses the values entered in the fields and does not fetch CRM, payroll, or account data.

What you can check with the estimate

Enter a sales total and quota to see how much falls in Tier 1 and Tier 2. Add the accelerator fields to see the third band and its separate commission. The result keeps the commission for each band visible.

Enter Base salary / draw to include it in Total pay (base + commission). Copy result or Download result (.txt) when you need the assumptions and tier breakdown in plain text.

Commission Calculator or another financial calculator?

Use the Financial Calculators category when you need a different financial calculation. Choose the Amortization Calculator for a loan's period-by-period principal, interest, and balance schedule, or the APR Calculator for a loan APR that includes fees, term, payment frequency, and payment timing. Choose the Pay Calculator for salary, hourly pay, overtime, raises, bonuses, commission, and a paycheck estimate in one calculation.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate sales commission with a quota?

Enter Total sales for the period ($), Sales quota for the period ($), Tier 1 rate: up to quota (%), and Tier 2 rate: above quota (%), then select Calculate. Tier 1 applies up to quota, and Tier 2 applies to sales above quota.

How does a tiered commission calculator handle an accelerator?

It multiplies the quota by Accelerator threshold (% of quota, optional), then applies Tier 2 up to that amount and Tier 3 above it. Enter the threshold and Tier 3 rate together.

Can I calculate commission with a base salary or draw?

Yes. Enter Base salary / draw for the period ($, optional), and the calculator adds it to Total commission for Total pay (base + commission).

Why is my commission estimate different from my payout?

The calculator does not model payout caps, clawbacks, draw recovery, deal-specific rates, team-based quotas, ramp schedules, or plan timing and rounding rules. An actual payout can include rules outside the fields here.
