Pay Calculator

Pick a mode to calculate salary-to-hourly or hourly-to-salary equivalents, overtime pay, sales commission, a raise, or a bonus. Every mode feeds gross pay into a shared paycheck estimator, where you set the pay frequency and add your own manual deductions to see gross pay, each deduction, and a net estimate separately.

Gross annual salary, before taxes and deductions.

Defaults to 52; lower it to reflect unpaid time off.

For Overtime, Commission, and Bonus modes, this tells the calculator how many pay periods a year your entered figures repeat for when annualizing. It does not change the per-paycheck gross for those modes.

Deduction nameTypeAmountRemove deduction

Add any withholding or deduction you want reflected in the net estimate - such as estimated income tax, retirement contribution, health insurance, or a garnishment - as a flat dollar amount per paycheck or a percent of gross pay. Nothing is pre-filled or looked up for you.

How to use the Pay Calculator

Start with the mode that matches the figure you have. The calculator shows only that mode's inputs, then carries its gross pay into the shared paycheck estimate. Pay frequency controls the per-paycheck and annualized views.

  1. Choose Salary ↔ Hourly, Overtime, Commission, Raise, or Bonus.
  2. Enter the fields shown for that mode, such as Annual salary ($), Base hourly rate ($), or Total sales (this period).
  3. Set Pay frequency to Weekly (52/year), Biweekly (26/year), Semimonthly (24/year), Monthly (12/year), or Annually (1/year).
  4. Select Add deduction to enter a named flat dollar amount per paycheck or a percent of gross pay.
  5. Select Calculate and review gross pay, each deduction, the net pay estimate, and the annualized figures.
  6. Select Reset to clear the inputs, remove deduction rows, restore the defaults, and hide the result.

Salary to hourly and hourly to salary calculations

In Salary ↔ Hourly, choose the direction under Convert. The calculator divides Annual salary ($) by Hours worked per week and Paid weeks per year for an hourly rate. In the reverse direction, it multiplies Hourly rate ($) by those two time values.

Annual salary: $60,000
Hours worked per week: 40
Paid weeks per year: 52
Hourly rate: $28.85

Overtime combines regular pay with overtime pay at Base hourly rate ($) multiplied by Overtime multiplier. Commission applies its tier rates to sales, then adds Base salary or draw (this period, optional). Raise changes Current pay ($) by either a percentage or a flat dollar amount. Bonus adds a flat amount or a percent of Base gross pay for this pay period ($).

How Pay frequency and deductions change the estimate

Salary ↔ Hourly and Raise produce annual gross pay, which Pay frequency divides into a paycheck amount. Overtime, Commission, and Bonus produce gross pay for one period, which the selected frequency multiplies for the annualized view. A percent deduction uses gross pay per paycheck; a flat deduction keeps its entered dollar amount.

Gross pay per paycheck: $2,000
Estimated federal tax, flat $150: $150
Net pay estimate per paycheck: $1,850

The result lists each deduction separately. If every deduction row is empty, the result displays "No manual deductions entered - net equals gross."

Pay Calculator limits and reset behavior

The selected mode checks its required fields before calculation. Hours worked per week cannot exceed 168, and Paid weeks per year cannot exceed 52. A deduction row with no name and no amount is skipped. A named row needs an amount, and a percentage deduction cannot exceed 100. The calculator does not apply tax rules, look up wage data, or supply deduction amounts.

The page calculates from the values you enter. Its code makes no request containing those values, and it does not upload or store them. Net pay is gross pay minus the deduction amounts entered for that paycheck.

Examples by mode

  • Salary ↔ Hourly converts an Annual salary ($) of $60,000 with 40 Hours worked per week and 52 Paid weeks per year.
  • Overtime combines a Base hourly rate ($) of $22, an Overtime multiplier of 1.5, 40 Regular hours (this pay period), and 5 Overtime hours (this pay period).
  • Commission can use Total sales (this period) of $50,000, a $40,000 Sales quota (this period), Tier 1 rate, up to quota (%) of 3%, Tier 2 rate, above quota (%) of 6%, and Base salary or draw (this period, optional).

When a separate calculator fits

Use Paycheck Calculator when gross pay is already known and the task is a per-paycheck or annualized deduction estimate. Use Overtime Pay Calculator for a dedicated overtime breakdown. Use Commission Calculator for a full tier breakdown and intermediate sales-commission values. Browse Financial Calculators for the other calculators in this category.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate salary to hourly pay?

Choose Salary ↔ Hourly, select Annual salary → Hourly rate under Convert, and enter Annual salary ($), Hours worked per week, and Paid weeks per year. The calculator divides the annual salary by the product of the two time inputs.

Can I calculate overtime pay with the Pay Calculator?

Choose Overtime and enter Base hourly rate ($), Overtime multiplier, Regular hours (this pay period), and Overtime hours (this pay period). The result adds regular pay to overtime pay calculated with the multiplier.

Does the Pay Calculator know my tax withholding?

No. The calculator does not apply federal, state, local, or payroll tax rules. You enter each deduction as a flat dollar amount per paycheck or a percent of gross pay.

How do I estimate net pay from gross pay?

Choose a mode, set Pay frequency, select Add deduction, enter each deduction, and select Calculate. The net pay estimate subtracts the entered deduction amounts from gross pay per paycheck.
