How to use the hourly to salary calculator
Enter your gross hourly rate and work schedule, then account for any weeks without pay. The calculator subtracts unpaid weeks before it calculates annual pay. The result includes the formula, the values used, and salary equivalents you can copy or download.
- Enter Hourly rate ($) and Hours worked per week.
- Enter Weeks per year (optional), or leave it blank to use
52. - Enter Unpaid time off (weeks/year, optional), or leave it blank to use
0. - Select Calculate, then review the result and assumptions.
How hourly pay becomes an annual salary
The calculator subtracts Unpaid time off (weeks/year, optional) from Weeks per year (optional) to get paid weeks. It multiplies paid weeks by Hourly rate ($) and Hours worked per week. The annual figure is divided by 12 for the monthly equivalent and by 52 for the weekly average.
Hourly rate ($): 25
Hours worked per week: 40
Weeks per year (optional): 52
Unpaid time off (weeks/year, optional): 2
Paid weeks per year: 50.00
Annual salary equivalent: $50,000.00
Monthly salary equivalent: $4,166.67
Weekly pay for a working week: $1,000.00
Weekly salary equivalent (avg. over 52 weeks): $961.54
What the weeks and unpaid time off fields change
A blank Weeks per year (optional) field uses 52. A blank Unpaid time off (weeks/year, optional) field uses 0. Enter only weeks without pay in the unpaid field. Paid vacation and paid sick time stay out of that number because they do not reduce the paid weeks used by the formula.
Weeks per year must be greater than 0 and no more than 52. Unpaid time off can be 0 or greater, but it must be less than the weeks per year entered. The calculator shows an error when an entry is empty or fails these checks.
Hourly to monthly salary and weekly equivalents
The result shows Annual salary equivalent and Monthly salary equivalent. It also shows Weekly salary equivalent (avg. over 52 weeks), which spreads annual pay across the full year, and Weekly pay for a working week, which uses the hourly rate and weekly hours. Displayed values and exported values use two decimal places.
Hourly rate must be greater than 0. Hours worked per week must be greater than 0 and no more than 168. Empty or invalid entries stop the calculation and show an error instead of a result.
This is a gross-pay calculation with one flat hourly rate. It excludes taxes, withholding, overtime premiums, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, and benefits. The entered values stay in the browser for this calculation. The code does not fetch live wage data, payroll records, or account information.
Where this comes up
A contractor can enter a quoted hourly rate, weekly hours, and planned unpaid weeks to compare the contract with an annual gross-pay figure.
An employee can enter an unpaid closure or leave period, then compare Weekly pay for a working week with the annual and monthly equivalents.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert an hourly rate to an annual salary?
Multiply Hourly rate ($) by Hours worked per week and by paid weeks per year. Paid weeks per year equals Weeks per year (optional) minus Unpaid time off (weeks/year, optional). With $25, 40 hours, and 50 paid weeks, the annual salary equivalent is $50,000.00.
How many weeks should I enter for hourly salary?
Enter the weeks in the year before subtracting unpaid time off, up to 52. Leave Weeks per year (optional) blank for 52, then enter only unpaid weeks in the separate time-off field. Unpaid time off must be less than the weeks per year entered.
Does the hourly to salary calculator include taxes or overtime?
No. It calculates gross pay with a flat hourly rate and excludes taxes, withholding, overtime premiums, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, and benefits.
Does this calculator send my pay information anywhere?
The calculation uses the values in your browser. The tool code has no request that sends those entered values, and it does not fetch live wage data, payroll records, or account information.
