Salary to Hourly Calculator

Enter your annual salary, hours per week, weeks per year, and paid time off. The calculator converts your salary into hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly equivalents, with the formula, every assumption, and intermediate values shown alongside the result.

Gross annual salary before taxes and deductions.

Editable default of 40. Scheduled hours worked in a typical week.

Editable default of 52. Total weeks your salary is paid across in a year.

Vacation, sick, and holiday days you are paid for but do not work. Leave blank for 0.

Enter the schedule behind the salary

Use Annual salary ($) for gross pay before taxes and deductions. Hours per week and Weeks per year start at 40 and 52, and Paid time off (days per year, optional) starts blank. The calculation uses these entries to show Hourly, Daily, Weekly, and Monthly amounts.

  1. Enter a value greater than 0 in Annual salary ($).
  2. Check Hours per week and Weeks per year, or keep their 40 and 52 defaults.
  3. Enter Paid time off (days per year, optional), or leave the field blank for 0.
  4. Click Calculate to show Hourly, Daily, Weekly, and Monthly.
  5. After the result appears, click Copy result or Download result (.txt).

How paid time off changes the hourly figure

The calculator divides paid time off days by 5 to get PTO weeks, then subtracts PTO weeks from Weeks per year. It multiplies the remaining working weeks by Hours per week to get Hours worked per year. A blank Paid time off (days per year, optional) field counts as 0.

Annual salary: $65,000
Hours per week: 40
Weeks per year: 52
Paid time off (days per year, optional): blank
Hourly: $31.25
Daily: $250.00
Weekly: $1,250.00
Monthly: $5,416.67

With 15 paid days, PTO weeks becomes 3, working weeks becomes 49, and Hours worked per year becomes 1,960. Hourly displays as $33.16. Monthly stays at $5,416.67 because the calculator divides Annual salary ($) by 12.

Formulas used for each result

After the inputs pass validation, the calculator applies these formulas:

  • PTO weeks = Paid time off / 5
  • Working weeks = Weeks per year - PTO weeks
  • Hours worked per year = Working weeks x Hours per week
  • Hourly rate = Annual salary / Hours worked per year
  • Daily rate = Hourly rate x (Hours per week / 5)
  • Weekly rate = Hourly rate x Hours per week
  • Monthly rate = Annual salary / 12

PTO conversion and Daily use a five-day workweek assumption. Results display in USD with two decimal places. Decimal Hours per week, Weeks per year, and paid time off values are accepted within the input checks.

Input checks and exclusions

  • Annual salary must be greater than 0.
  • Hours per week must be greater than 0 and no more than 168. Weeks per year must be greater than 0 and no more than 52.
  • Paid time off must be between 0 and 260 days, and its converted weeks must be less than Weeks per year.
  • The calculation does not include taxes, overtime, bonuses, unpaid leave, or deductions. Daily is an approximation when the schedule has a number of workdays other than five.

Compare salary and hourly pay

Enter the annual salary and expected schedule when comparing a salaried offer with an hourly role. Add paid days off when the comparison should use hours actually worked.

Weekly and Daily can give planning figures, while Monthly places the annual amount on a 12-month basis. The result uses only the values entered in the calculator; it does not fetch live wage data or payroll records.

Choose another calculator when the inputs differ

Use this calculator for pay-period equivalents based on salary and work time. For pay, tax, raise, bonus, and overtime calculations, see Financial Calculators.

Choose Hourly to Salary Calculator when you have an hourly rate and need annual, monthly, or weekly salary equivalents. Choose Paycheck Calculator when you need a net paycheck estimate from gross pay and manual deductions. For overtime based on a base rate and overtime hours, use Overtime Pay Calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate hourly pay from an annual salary?

Divide Annual salary ($) by Hours worked per year. This calculator gets Hours worked per year by subtracting Paid time off converted to weeks from Weeks per year, then multiplying by Hours per week.

How does PTO change the salary to hourly calculation?

Paid time off reduces the working weeks used to calculate annual hours, so the Hourly and Daily figures rise when the annual salary stays the same. Monthly still equals Annual salary divided by 12.

How is monthly salary calculated from annual salary?

Monthly pay is Annual salary ($) divided by 12. The result does not change when you add paid time off.

What does the salary to hourly calculator use as input?

It uses Annual salary ($), Hours per week, Weeks per year, and optional Paid time off (days per year, optional). It does not fetch live wage data or payroll records.

What does the Daily result assume?

The Daily result assumes five workdays per week. It divides Hours per week by 5, then multiplies that value by the Hourly rate, so another schedule makes Daily an approximation.
