Paycheck Calculator

Enter your gross pay, pick a pay frequency, and add your own manual deductions to see an estimated net paycheck - with gross pay, each deduction, and net shown separately, per paycheck and for the year.

Gross pay for a single pay period, before taxes and deductions - as shown on your pay stub before withholding.

Used to convert between a per-paycheck amount and an annual salary, and to annualize the result.

Deduction nameTypeAmountRemove deduction

Add any withholding or deduction you want reflected in the net estimate - such as estimated income tax, retirement contribution, health insurance, or a garnishment - as a flat dollar amount per paycheck or a percent of gross pay. Nothing is pre-filled or looked up for you.

Set up the paycheck estimate

Start with gross pay before deductions. Under Gross pay entered is, choose An amount for one paycheck or An annual salary. The calculator uses that choice with Pay frequency to produce per-paycheck and annualized figures. Add only the deductions you want included.

  1. Choose Gross pay entered is, then select An amount for one paycheck or An annual salary.
  2. Enter the amount in Gross pay this paycheck ($), or in Annual gross salary ($) when you chose an annual salary.
  3. Choose a Pay frequency, such as Biweekly (26/year).
  4. Select Add deduction, enter a Deduction name and Deduction amount, and choose the Deduction type for each row.
  5. Select Calculate to show the breakdown. Use Copy result or Download result (.txt) to keep the plain-text result.

How the gross pay conversion works

A per-paycheck entry is used as the gross for one pay period. An annual salary is divided by the selected number of periods. The available choices are weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, monthly, and annually. Annualized totals multiply each per-paycheck figure by that number of periods.

For example, a $2,500 per-paycheck entry with Biweekly (26/year) and a $150 flat deduction produces these values:

Gross pay entered: $2,500
Pay frequency: Biweekly (26/year)
Estimated federal tax: $150 flat per paycheck

Gross pay per paycheck: $2,500.00
Net pay estimate per paycheck: $2,350.00
Gross pay, annualized: $65,000.00
Net pay estimate, annualized: $61,100.00

How deduction rows are handled

Add one row for each amount you want included. Flat $ per paycheck subtracts the entered dollar amount. % of gross pay applies the percentage to one paycheck's gross and shows the resulting dollar amount in the result table.

  • A row with both its name and amount blank is ignored.
  • A named row needs an amount of 0 or greater. A percentage cannot exceed 100.
  • A missing name, missing amount, or invalid amount stops the calculation with an error.
  • The calculator does not cap deductions at gross pay, so the net estimate can be negative.

What the result does not include

The result uses your gross pay and the deductions you enter. It does not apply federal, state, or local tax rules, look up tax tables, or fetch payroll and wage data. Enter amounts from your records if you want to model a pay stub, then confirm actual pay with your employer or payroll provider.

The calculation runs in your browser. The calculator does not upload or store the values entered in the form. After you select Calculate, the result shows gross pay, each deduction, net pay, the formula, and the assumptions used.

Examples of what you can check

  • An employee has an annual salary and wants the per-paycheck gross for a selected pay schedule.
  • A worker has a pay-stub gross amount and enters estimated tax, retirement, or insurance deductions as separate rows.
  • Someone building a budget checks the annualized net estimate after changing manual deductions.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate take-home pay from gross pay?

Enter gross pay, select a pay frequency, add deductions, and select Calculate. The calculator subtracts manual deductions from per-paycheck gross pay and shows the net estimate per paycheck and annualized.

Can I use an annual salary in the paycheck calculator?

Yes, choose An annual salary under Gross pay entered is. The calculator divides that amount by the selected number of pay periods to calculate gross pay per paycheck.

How do I add deductions to a paycheck estimate?

Select Add deduction, name the item, choose Flat $ per paycheck or % of gross pay, and enter its amount. The result lists each deduction separately and includes its computed per-paycheck value.

Does the paycheck calculator use tax tables?

No, it does not use tax tables or jurisdiction-specific withholding rules. You supply the deduction amounts, so the net pay figure is an estimate based on your entries.

Can the net paycheck estimate be negative?

Yes, the estimate can be negative when the deductions you enter total more than gross pay. The calculator does not cap deductions at the gross amount.
