How to use the Financial Health Calculator
Use current asset values and current liability balances for the net worth calculation. For DTI, enter gross income and recurring monthly debt payments; the calculator converts annual income to a monthly amount before dividing debt by income.
Enter figures for net worth or DTI
- Choose Both (full overview), Net worth only, or Debt-to-income ratio only.
- For net worth, enter current amounts in the asset and liability rows. These rows use current value and current balance.
- For DTI, enter a gross amount in Gross income ($), choose Monthly or Annual under Income period, and add recurring payments with Add debt.
- Click Calculate to see the totals, category breakdowns, formula, and assumptions for the selected mode.
- Use Copy result, Download result (.txt), or Reset after reviewing the result.
How net worth and DTI are calculated
Net worth is total assets minus total liabilities. The result groups positive entries by category and shows Total assets, Total liabilities, and Net worth.
Cash & bank accounts: $5,000
Mortgage balance: $200,000
Net worth: -$195,000
DTI is total recurring monthly debt divided by gross monthly income, multiplied by 100. When Income period is Annual, the entered amount is divided by 12 first.
Gross income ($): $6,000, Monthly
Housing (rent or mortgage): $1,500
Auto loan or lease: $300
Debt-to-income ratio: 30.0%
What the Financial Health Calculator counts
Asset categories are Cash & bank accounts, Investments (stocks, bonds, retirement), Real estate, Vehicles, and Other asset. Liability categories are Mortgage balance, Auto loan balance, Student loan balance, Credit card balance, Personal loan balance, and Other liability.
Debt rows cover Housing (rent or mortgage), Auto loan or lease, Student loan, Credit card (minimum payment), Personal loan, Alimony / child support, and Other recurring debt. Gross income means income before taxes and other deductions. Groceries, utilities, subscriptions, and insurance are outside the debt list unless an amount is a loan payment.
Blank rows are ignored, and zero values do not appear in the totals. Negative or invalid entries show an error. Net worth requires one positive asset or liability. DTI requires income above 0, gross monthly income of at least $1, and one positive recurring debt payment. Each list accepts up to 15 rows.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate net worth with assets and liabilities?
Enter current asset values and liability balances, then choose Net worth only or Both (full overview). The calculator subtracts total liabilities from total assets and groups positive entries by category.
How is the debt-to-income ratio calculated?
The debt-to-income ratio is total recurring monthly debt divided by gross monthly income, multiplied by 100. Annual income is divided by 12 to produce gross monthly income.
Can I enter annual income in the financial health calculator?
Choose Annual under Income period after entering Gross income ($). The calculator divides that amount by 12 and uses the result as gross monthly income for DTI.
Does the financial health calculator use my credit report?
The calculator uses only the figures you enter. It performs the arithmetic in the browser and does not access credit reports or credit scores, determine creditworthiness, or issue lending decisions.
