How to use the Net Worth Calculator
Add the things you own and the debts you owe, then let the Net Worth Calculator total each side. Choose a category for every row. The result shows the formula, assumptions, category subtotals, and a debt-to-asset ratio when Total assets is greater than zero.
- Enter an optional name, choose an asset category, and type its amount in the Current value ($) field.
- Click Add asset for another row. Pick a category such as Cash & bank accounts, Investments & brokerage, Real estate, Vehicles, or Personal property. You can add up to 20 asset rows.
- Enter each debt in the Outstanding balance ($) field, then choose a category such as Mortgage, Auto loan, Student loan, Credit card balance, or Personal loan. Click Add liability for another row, up to 20 liability rows.
- Click Calculate to generate the statement. After reviewing it, click Copy result or Download result (.txt). Click Reset to restore the starter rows.
Net worth calculator formula and categories
The calculator adds positive asset values and positive liability values separately. It subtracts Total liabilities from Total assets, then groups the counted rows by category. Each breakdown is ordered by its subtotal.
Total assets = sum of every counted asset value
Total liabilities = sum of every counted liability value
Net worth = Total assets - Total liabilities
When Total assets is greater than zero, the result also includes Debt-to-asset ratio (%) = (Total liabilities / Total assets) x 100. Each breakdown shows a category subtotal and its percentage of the total.
What values does the Net Worth Calculator use?
Enter a point-in-time value for what you own and the current amount you owe. The fields use ($), results are formatted as USD, and the calculator applies no currency conversion. It does not supply live account balances, market prices, property valuations, exchange rates, or credit-file data.
Cash & bank accounts: 5000
Credit card balance: 1200
Total assets: $5,000.00
Total liabilities: $1,200.00
Net worth: $3,800.00
The calculator skips a blank value row and leaves a zero value out of the counted totals. A negative value or invalid number produces an error and hides the result. At least one asset or liability value greater than 0 is required.
Where this net worth calculation comes up
For a household balance sheet, enter bank accounts, investments, property, vehicles, and loan balances by category. The result puts Total assets, Total liabilities, and Net worth in one statement.
Names such as a checking account or car loan can sit beside their categories. Copy result puts the totals and category breakdowns into a text summary.
For a later check-in, enter the new current values and outstanding balances, then compare the saved statements outside the calculator. Each statement reflects the figures entered at that time.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my net worth?
Enter your asset values and liability balances, then click Calculate. The result subtracts Total liabilities from Total assets and displays Net worth.
What should I enter for assets and liabilities?
Enter the current value you assign to assets such as Cash & bank accounts, Investments & brokerage, Real estate, and Vehicles. Enter the outstanding balance for debts such as Mortgage, Auto loan, Student loan, and Credit card balance.
Does the net worth calculator pull account balances automatically?
No. The calculator uses the numbers you type into its rows and does not fetch live balances, market prices, property valuations, or credit-file data.
Why is the debt-to-asset ratio missing?
The debt-to-asset ratio appears only when Total assets is greater than zero. A liability-only entry can still produce Total liabilities and a negative Net worth.
