How to calculate basketball shooting metrics
Enter six shooting counts, then click Calculate. The Basketball Shooting Metrics Calculator returns FG%, 3P%, FT%, eFG%, and TS%, with the denominator and formula for each metric. The result also shows the intermediate values used in the calculation.
Enter a basketball shooting line
- Enter whole numbers in Field goals made (FGM), Field goals attempted (FGA), Three-pointers made (3PM), Three-pointers attempted (3PA), Free throws made (FTM), and Free throws attempted (FTA).
- Keep each made count at or below its attempts. Three-point attempts and makes must also stay at or below the matching field-goal totals.
- Click Calculate to show the five percentages, their formulas and denominators, and the intermediate values.
- Click Reset to clear the six inputs and hide the result section.
How basketball shooting percentage formulas work
FG%, 3P%, and FT% divide makes by attempts in the same category. eFG% adds half of 3PM to FGM before dividing by FGA. TS% uses points from two-point makes, three-point makes, and free throws, then divides by 2 x (FGA + 0.44 x FTA).
FGM 9, FGA 18
3PM 3, 3PA 7
FTM 4, FTA 5
FG% 50.0% 3P% 42.9% FT% 80.0%
eFG% 58.3% TS% 61.9%
The formulas are FG% = FGM / FGA, 3P% = 3PM / 3PA, FT% = FTM / FTA, eFG% = (FGM + 0.5 x 3PM) / FGA, and TS% = Points / (2 x (FGA + 0.44 x FTA)). The calculator derives points with 2 x (FGM - 3PM) + 3 x 3PM + FTM.
Why basketball shooting inputs are rejected
Each entry must be a whole number of 0 or more. The calculator shows an error for a blank or invalid entry, Field goals attempted (FGA) equal to 0, a made count above its attempts, or a three-point total above the matching field-goal total.
Three-pointers attempted (3PA) and Free throws attempted (FTA) can be 0. The related percentage then displays N/A. Field goals attempted (FGA) must be greater than zero, and the calculator counts three-pointers inside the field-goal totals when it derives two-point makes and total points.
How to read and save the result
The result section puts FG%, 3P%, FT%, eFG%, and TS% at the top. The comparison table shows each metric's makes, denominator, formula, and result. The intermediate-value table includes the six inputs, two-point makes, total points, TS% denominator, and percentages with two decimal places.
Headline percentages use one decimal place. Click Copy result to copy the generated text, or click Download result (.txt) to save it as a text file.
The six counts you enter supply the calculation. The page does not send those counts with fetch, XMLHttpRequest, sendBeacon, or a form post, so the calculation stays in the browser.
Where basketball shooting metrics come up
Use the five metrics together when a shooting line includes field goals, three-pointers, and free throws. FG%, 3P%, and FT% keep each category separate. eFG% and TS% use the same line to account for made three-pointers and free throws.
The comparison table helps when you need to check a percentage against its exact makes and denominator. The intermediate values show how the calculator reached the total points and TS% denominator.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate basketball shooting percentage from makes and attempts?
Enter values in Field goals made (FGM), Field goals attempted (FGA), Three-pointers made (3PM), Three-pointers attempted (3PA), Free throws made (FTM), and Free throws attempted (FTA), then click Calculate. The calculator divides each made count by its matching attempts and also calculates eFG% and TS% from the full shooting line.
What is the difference between FG%, eFG%, and TS%?
FG% divides field goals made by field goals attempted. eFG% adds half of three-point makes to its numerator. TS% uses derived points and the denominator 2 x (FGA + 0.44 x FTA).
Why does my basketball shooting calculation show N/A?
N/A appears when Three-pointers attempted (3PA) or Free throws attempted (FTA) is zero, because that category has no denominator. Field goals attempted (FGA) cannot be zero.
Can I save the basketball shooting metrics result?
Yes. Click Copy result to copy the generated text, or click Download result (.txt) to save the same result as a plain-text file.
