How to watermark PDF pages

Choose Text or Image, select the PDF pages to change, and set where the mark should appear. Watermark PDF previews the selected page while you adjust Position, Scale (%), Rotation (deg), Opacity (%), margins, and Layer order. Apply creates a separate PDF, and Download .pdf saves that result.

How to add a watermark to a PDF

  1. Choose a file: Drop a .pdf file here or select browse files.
  2. Choose Text and enter Watermark text, or choose Image and select a PNG or JPG under Watermark image (PNG or JPG).
  3. Enter all, a page number, or a range such as 1,3-5 in Page range. Then choose Position.
  4. Set Scale (%), Rotation (deg), Opacity (%), Offset X / Y (pt), the margin fields, and Layer order. Turn on Repeat as a tiled pattern (instead of a single stamp) when one mark should become a tiled pattern.
  5. Check pages with Previous preview page and Next preview page. Choose Apply, then choose Download .pdf.

Text or image PDF watermarks

Text uses Watermark text, Color, and Font size (pt). The exported PDF uses Helvetica Bold for text. Image accepts a PNG or JPG. Both modes use Position, offsets, scale, rotation, opacity, margins, Layer order, and the repeat setting.

Input PDF: report.pdf
Mode: Text
Watermark text: CONFIDENTIAL
Page range: 1,3-5
Output PDF: report-watermarked.pdf

The downloaded filename adds -watermarked.pdf to the source name. The original file remains unchanged in memory.

What Page range and repeat pattern change

A blank Page range or all selects every page. Comma-separated page numbers and ranges such as 1,3-5 are accepted. A malformed entry shows an error, and page numbers outside the document are skipped. Apply stops when the value selects no page in the PDF.

Turn on Repeat as a tiled pattern (instead of a single stamp) to place repeated marks. Tile spacing X (pt) and Tile spacing Y (pt) set the spacing between marks. Position, offsets, and margins still affect the pattern.

How Layer order affects the PDF preview

Above page content places the watermark over the existing page content in the exported PDF. Below page content moves the watermark drawing beneath that content. The canvas preview draws the mark over the rendered page in both cases, so check the exported PDF when Below page content is selected.

The watermark is visual content. Existing watermarks and page content remain in the file. Encrypted or password-protected PDFs are blocked, and Watermark PDF does not remove marks, redact content, encrypt the file, or restrict copying and editing.

Examples of watermark settings

For report.pdf, choose Text, enter CONFIDENTIAL, and set Page range to 1,3-5. The downloaded copy uses the -watermarked.pdf filename.

For a repeated logo, choose Image, select a PNG under Watermark image (PNG or JPG), and turn on Repeat as a tiled pattern (instead of a single stamp). Set Tile spacing X (pt) and Tile spacing Y (pt) to control the pattern.

For a mark beneath the page text, choose Below page content and inspect the exported PDF. The preview places the mark over the rendered page even when the export uses the lower layer.

When to use another PDF edit tool

Watermark PDF is part of PDF Edit Tools for visible text or image marks. Choose PDF Page Editor for page changes, page numbers, repeated headers or footers, AcroForm fields, annotations, flat bookmarks, or a signature image. Choose PDF Metadata Editor for Document Info fields or detected XMP metadata.

Frequently asked questions

Choose Image, select a PNG or JPG under Watermark image (PNG or JPG), then set its placement and appearance with the shared controls.

Does Watermark PDF upload my file?
