How to use the Image Compressor
Start with Drop images here or browse files. Image Compressor accepts JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, BMP, and AVIF files, then processes each selected file in the browser. The page does not send the image content through a network request.
- Drop files into Drop images here, or select browse files.
- Choose an Output format: Keep original, JPEG, WebP, or PNG.
- Choose High, Balanced, or Small. Choose Custom and adjust the Quality value when you need another setting.
- Enable Target file size, enter a value in
Target size, and chooseKBorMBwhen the option is available. - Review Before, After, and the result table, then select Download all as ZIP.
What the quality controls change
High sets Quality to 95%, Balanced sets it to 75%, and Small sets it to 45%. Custom lets you set a value between 1% and 100%. These values affect JPEG and WebP output. PNG output is lossless, so the page leaves its quality setting and target-size setting unused.

Output format: WebP
Result: photo-compressed.webp
Keep original retains JPEG, PNG, and WebP output for those input types. GIF, BMP, and AVIF files become PNG when Keep original is selected. Choosing JPEG fills the canvas with white before the image is encoded, which affects transparent source images.
How target file size is handled
Turn on Target file size, enter a positive number in Target size, and select KB or MB. For JPEG and WebP, the compressor tries several quality values and keeps the result closest to the requested byte size. The result can differ from the value entered. Empty, invalid, and zero-or-negative values are ignored.
Target size: 100
Unit: KB
Target file size is disabled for PNG output. It is also disabled when Keep original is selected and every chosen file is PNG. A processed file can be larger than its source, so compare the Original, Compressed, and Savings columns.
What the result table shows
The first successful file appears in the Before and After preview. The table lists File, Original, Compressed, Savings, and Status for each selected file. A file that cannot be read or encoded gets N/A values and an error message.
You can select multiple files together. Download all as ZIP includes the successful results, with names such as photo-compressed.webp.
Examples of settings to compare
To create a WebP copy of a JPG, choose WebP under Output format, then compare the Before and After preview and the byte sizes in the table. To compare compression levels, select the same source again and test High, Balanced, and Small.
For a group of images, select them together and download the successful results as a ZIP. When a file-size requirement is given, enter its number in Target size and choose KB or MB.
When to use another image compression tool
For the broader set of image size tasks, see Image Compress Tools. Use GIF Compressor when an animated GIF needs frame rate, dimensions, colors, dithering, or looping controls. Use SVG Optimizer when the input is SVG markup and you want to remove selected comments, metadata, redundant attributes, or unused IDs without rasterizing it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I compress JPG, PNG, and WebP images?
Add the files, choose an Output format, select a quality preset or Custom, and review the results. PNG output does not use quality or target-size controls.
Can I reduce an image to a target file size?
Enable Target file size, enter Target size, and choose KB or MB. JPEG and WebP results are chosen near the requested value, so the final size can differ.
Why is Target file size disabled?
Target file size is disabled when PNG is selected or when Keep original is used with PNG files only. PNG output is lossless and does not use the target-size control.
Do images stay on my device?
Yes. The page reads, draws, and encodes the selected files in the browser. Its code does not send the image content through a network request.
How do I download multiple compressed images?
Select multiple supported files and choose Download all as ZIP after their rows show Ready. The archive contains the successful results.
