How to use the Hex Converter
Start in Source text or hexadecimal, then choose Hex → Text to decode bytes or Text → Hex to encode text. The result appears in Converted output as soon as the source or a conversion option changes. Text → Hex also lets you choose Space, 0x prefix, \x escape, or Raw.
Choose a conversion direction
- Choose Hex → Text for hexadecimal input, or Text → Hex for ordinary text.
- Enter or paste the source in Source text or hexadecimal, or choose Upload.
- For Text → Hex, select Space, 0x prefix, \x escape, or Raw. Turn on Uppercase hexadecimal letters when you want capital A-F characters.
- Read Converted output, then choose Copy or Download.
How to convert text to hex
Text → Hex encodes the entered string as UTF-8 bytes. Space puts one space between bytes. 0x prefix puts 0x before each byte, \x escape joins escaped bytes, and Raw removes separators. Uppercase hexadecimal letters changes the rendered output to uppercase, including prefix characters in 0x prefix and \x escape formats.
Input: Hello
Space: 48 65 6c 6c 6f
0x prefix: 0x48 0x65 0x6c 0x6c 0x6f
\x escape: \x48\x65\x6c\x6c\x6f
Raw: 48656c6c6f
How to decode hexadecimal to text
Hex → Text trims the source and turns repeated whitespace into single spaces. It accepts hexadecimal digits with optional spaces, plus 0x or \x at the start of a token. The remaining digits must form complete two-digit bytes. Other characters, an odd digit count, or invalid UTF-8 bytes produce an error.
Hex input: 48 65 6C 6C 6F
Converted output: Hello
What the input and output controls do
Conversion runs when the source or a conversion option changes. Converted output is read-only after a successful conversion. Copy puts the result on the clipboard. Download saves it as a text/plain;charset=utf-8 Blob.
The page script uses TextEncoder and TextDecoder in the browser. It contains no fetch, XMLHttpRequest, sendBeacon, or form submission for the entered content, so that content stays in the browser during conversion.
Upload accepts files with .txt, .csv, .log, or .md extensions and the text/plain MIME type. The selected file supplies Source text or hexadecimal for the same conversion direction and format choices.
Examples for hexadecimal conversion
- Use Hex → Text when a log contains
48 65 6C 6C 6Fand you need its readable value. - Use Text → Hex with Space when each byte needs its own separated value, or Raw when separators would get in the way.
- Use Upload when the source is in a supported text file, then copy the converted output for the next step.

Use Text Transformation Tools when the task is broader than hexadecimal conversion. Binary Converter handles decimal, hexadecimal, binary, or octal character codes with a per-character breakdown. HTML Entity Encoder / Decoder handles named, decimal, or hexadecimal HTML entity references. Morse Code Converter handles Morse code and includes playback and WAV download controls.
