How to use Image Converter
Select one or more supported files, choose an output in Convert to, and click Convert. Quality - 88% controls JPG, WebP, and AVIF encoding. Background color for transparent areas is used when the output is JPG. The image files stay on your device while the converter works in the browser.
Convert images in five steps
- Drop images here, or click browse files to select one or more supported files.
- Choose JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF in Convert to.
- Adjust Quality - 88% for JPG, WebP, or AVIF. For JPG, choose a color with Background color for transparent areas.
- Click Convert and read each file row's Status and New size.
- Compare Before with After, then use a completed row's download icon or click Download all as ZIP.
What each output format does
Convert to chooses the file type written by the browser's canvas encoder. The note below it shows the selected type and, for lossy formats, the current quality value.
- JPG uses Quality - 88% and fills transparent pixels with the selected background color.
- PNG has no quality control in the workspace and can keep transparent pixels.
- WebP accepts the quality setting and can keep transparent pixels.
- AVIF accepts the quality setting when the browser can encode AVIF.
After the first file loads, the converter selects that file's type if it is a writable output. GIF, SVG, BMP, and HEIC start with JPG instead.
input: PNG
output: JPG
transparent pixels: selected background color
What Quality - 88% and the background color change
Quality - 88% accepts values from 1 to 100 for JPG, WebP, and AVIF. PNG hides the quality control because its output path does not use that setting.
For JPG, the converter fills the canvas with the color chosen under Background color for transparent areas before drawing the image. PNG, WebP, and AVIF clear the canvas first, so their output can retain transparent pixels.
When a file receives an error
The drop zone lists JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, SVG, BMP, and HEIC as source formats. HEIC decoding depends on the browser. A file that cannot be decoded receives an error status, and a format that the browser cannot encode also fails instead of producing a download.
AVIF can be unavailable even though it appears in Convert to. The option is disabled when the browser cannot create an AVIF output. The interface accepts multiple files and does not set a file-count or file-size limit in this page's code.
Ways to use the conversion results
Use an SVG, BMP, or HEIC source when the file can be decoded in the current browser, then check Before and After before downloading the result.
Select several source files for one output format, check each New size, and use Download all as ZIP after the completed rows appear. Failed rows are left out of the completed set.
When another image converter fits better
Use Image Convert Tools to compare image-format tasks. For HEIC-only work, HEIC to JPG Converter includes EXIF metadata and original-date options for ZIP downloads.
Choose Image to WebP Converter when WebP is always the destination and you want its output-size comparison. Choose PNG to JPG Converter for PNG sources and its transparent-area background control.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert an image to JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF?
Select a file with browse files, choose the output in Convert to, and click Convert. A completed row shows New size and its download icon.
Does Image Converter keep transparent backgrounds?
PNG, WebP, and AVIF can keep transparent pixels. JPG fills them with the color selected under Background color for transparent areas.
Why will my HEIC image not load?
HEIC decoding depends on the browser. If the file receives an error status, export it as JPG or PNG in an application that can read HEIC, then select that exported file.
Can I convert several images and download one ZIP?
Select multiple image files, click Convert, and then click Download all as ZIP after the completed outputs appear. Files that failed conversion are not included in the completed set.
